2016 GMC Sierra HD Lineup Hauls In New Features And Technology

Earlier this summer, GMC graced truck buyers with the refreshed 2016 Sierra lineup, which included the standard, All Terrain and Denali trims. Now, GMC has revealed what’s in store for the 2016 Sierra HD family of trucks.

The 2016 GMC Sierra HD, which includes the 2500 and 3500 variants, features the same refreshed design as seen on its standard-duty siblings but, introduces a handful of new features.

The largest addition to the 2016 Sierra HD lineup is the availability of Active Steering Assist on certain double cab and crew cab models. GMC says the system simplifies towing and hauling, and inspires confidence with even the largest loads. Electronic controls enhance road holding and stability, while greater responsiveness and steering feel make the toughest jobs simpler.

The 2016 GMC Sierra HD lineup now also features a new Gooseneck/5th-wheel package. GMC says this addition was made to create a Sierra HD ready to tow large trailers right from the factory. The package may be had with Duramax equipped Sierra HDs, and features a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray that accommodates a gooseneck ball hitch or fifth-wheel hitch-mounting brackets.

The heaviest of duty 2016 Sierra HDs with the Gooseneck/5th-wheel package will be capable of trailering up to 23,200 pounds.

Other highlights of the 2016 Sierra HD include an updated IntelliLink system with Apple CarPlay capability, signature HID lighting standard across all trims, wireless phone charging and an available remote locking tailgate.

The updates and refreshed 2016 Sierra will tide buyers over until a new-generation of full-size trucks launches for the 2018 model year with an extensive use of aluminum construction.

  • Why don't we Sierra owners get a heads up display like the Yukon? Or for that matter a bunch of other GMC vehicles? I want a heads up display on my Sierra Denali 1500. You guys are really missing the boat on this one.

    • My wife's camaro SS has the heads up......I hate it. I scroll it up outta my way.

      I don't want that cheesy crap in my 2500HD.

  • I just bought a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT , double cab ,and the radio SUCKS.

    I also own a chevy 2500 high Country crew cab , and a chevy Tahoe , and the radio sounds so great.

    With the new 2016 Sierra , there's a boomy bass sound BLATS from the door speakers , that's apparent with 99% of any Rock or Country music I listen to. The ONLY way to deal with it is to cut the bass and mids a 1/4 below half , crank the treble full , and put almost 100% of the fade to the front. I work in a sound studio and have 30 years experience. This MISTAKE in tuning the radio to the truck is HUGE. I contacted GMC about this issue. And they basically said I was out of luck , since there is no EQ frequency selection , and the frequency and Q of the BASS, MID , and TREBLE , has been chosen by the company.

    I will contact my dealer Monday. There's 500 miles on the truck , and I might ask to return it. Buyer beware. GMC needs to address this , unless customers everywhere don't mind a thumpy , annoying bass boom , that can't be dialed out with the tone controls.
