No Cadillac ATS-V.R GT3 Customer Race Cars Reported For 2015

While the Cadillac ATS-V.R GT3 racer is currently waiting for FIA certification, Cadillac Racing has announce that the race car will solely be in the hands of Cadillac Racing teams − no outside customers will be able to buy the racing coupe for 2015.

Cadillac wants to focus on the homologation and development of its GT3 car in its first season participating in the Pirelli World Challenge.

“I feel it’s our responsibility as the constructor to make sure it’s right,” Cadillac Racing technical program manager David Caldwell told Sportscar 365. Added Caldwell, “If the marketing side determines that we will expand out into customer teams, I see ’15 as our opportunity to make sure we have a great car for that … At this point in time, we have no official plan put together [for customer cars]. We’ve had a couple of questions come at it from different privateer teams, but we don’t have a schedule like that.”

The ATS-V.R is powered by a 3.6L twin-turbo V6, just like the street car. Its track experience was limited to some testing back in August before being sent to France for the FIA’s Balance of Performance test for homologation.

“We can do all the testing we want, but we need to go race it,” said Caldwell. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to race in World Challenge next year.
