Chevrolet has recently been ranked No. 32 in Interbrand’s 2014 Best Global Green Brands report. Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy, created the report to measure the market’s perception and actual environmental performance of a company and its products.
The brand praised Chevrolet’s vehicles, how they are made, and the regulation of vehicles as standout items in its environmental performance. The report went on to state that Chevrolet set sustainability as the top priority for the company and made public vows to reduce its carbon footprint.
The automaker’s most fuel-efficient vehicles include:
• The $19,995 Chevrolet Spark EV, one of the most efficient and affordable electric vehicles on the market today. It is currently being sold in Oregon and California and boasts a class-leading 327 lb-ft of torque.
• Chevrolet Cruze, with the Eco model achieving an EPA-estimated 42 MPG highway and the diesel model attaining an EPA-estimated 46 MPG highway – the best highway fuel economy of any non-hybrid vehicle.
• Chevrolet Volt, which has decreased gas consumption by 25 million gallons throughout the U.S. since its introduction in 2011. Owners have been able to save approximately $1,450 on average in annual fuel costs.
Interbrand carries out research to understand public perception of a brand’s sustainability and compares that to sustainability performance data that is available to the public, which is provided by Deloitte. Chevrolet ranks No. 89 on Interbrand’s 100 Best Global Brands report, the list from which the top green brands are selected.

Well, here's the deal. Chevy is at 32nd in terms of green. All of their major competition is ahead of them. In fact Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan are 1,2,3,4 (which is kind of interesting because of Toyota's Prius line and that Ford displaced them at the top); and it is midpoint between perception and performance. On the plus side of that this is their first year on the charts, and landing in at 32 is not a bad showing. Also, everyone ahead of them has been there for at least two years. Cracking into the top 5 may be achievable, but they have some formidable competition.
