General Motors Expected To Make “Significant Manufacturing” Announcement For Filnt Plant

Come Monday, General Motors is reportedly anticipated to make a major announcement at its Flint Assembly facility, where the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra half-ton and HD models are manufactured. Present during the announcement will be still-GM North America President Mark Reuss, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and UAW Region 1-C Director Norwood Jewell, according to a media advisory Friday.

Plant expansion? Line re-tooling? Tax abatement? We’ll have to wait just over another day to know for sure.

  • What is the m oust important full size truck segment?

1/2 trucks! I hope that didn't take very long!

There are more 1/2 ton trucks sold in the US then any other type of truck sold!

Of all the companies that sell 1/2 trucks which one do you think sells the most 1/2 ton trucks?

    GM not ford!

When you lump all truck sells in the total from 1/2,3/4,1 Ton! 450,550,650 and so it doesn't really tell the whole story!

  • Ever since the Fall Guy, there wasn't really a reason to drive anything else.

And now the 6.2 spanks the Ecoboost not only in balls but also at the pump. All hail the venerable small block V8.

  • The new paint shop is old news. Since the announcement is taking place at Flint, the best guess is that it has something to do with trucks. The Flint plant supposedly has a lot of vacant space where the 560 medium duty line was. The statement says the announcement is about manufacturing. Here's a wild guess- maybe a joint venture with Isuzu for commercial trucks?

  • Drive one and then talk. The MAJOR changes in the interior alone are dramatic. The drive is just as improved. Truck buyers don't want major styling changes, it's a truck so there is only so much you can do. Sales numbers (+20% in Nov.) and increased ATP's prove that the new truck IS appealing.
