As expected, Opel (and thus Vauxhall) has officially revealed an updated version of the athletic Insignia OPC. Also included in the announcement was the refreshed Insignia OPC Sports Tourer.
Powertrain wise, it doesn’t seem that anything changes, meaning the Insignia OPC retains a 2.8L turbocharged V6 engine good for 325 horsepower that’s sent to all four wheels through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The Haldex all-wheel-drive system is also sophisticated enough to distribute zero to 100 percent of the vehicle’s torque between the front and rear axles, as well as between the rear wheels. From a standstill, the Insignia OPC can achieve 0-100 km (62 mph) in 6.0 seconds, or 6.3 seconds in the case of the OPC Sports Tourer.
60 percent of the Insignia OPC’s chassis has been re-engineered, with an emphasis on a new rear-axle. The vehicle’s ESP software claims more precise dynamics tuning than before, especially in reaction to understeer. Meanwhile, the damper software has be recalibrated for the FlexRide chassis with its adjustable shock absorbers that promises better hugging of the road. All-in-all, vehicle dynamics are said to be sharper, quicker, and more composed than before. On the inside, drivers can monitor things like oil pressure and temperature, battery voltage, throttle position, brake power and the g-force resulting from lateral acceleration on the optional, 8-inch instrument readout display.
