Thursday, December 13 is perhaps the biggest day of 2012 for the full-sized truck market. It’s when General Motors will pull the sheet off not only the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado, but the new GMC Sierra as well. And with anticipation being white-hot, Chevrolet provided a teaser of its new breadwinner on Facebook just this morning, coupled with the hashtag #RaiseTheBar for those that are on Twitter.
For truck lovers, there’s much to be excited about. And, rightfully, expectations are quite high. GM needs to deliver. But what sort of features are you hoping for in the new trucks? I'm excited to see what GM has finally cooked up for the highest trim level to compete with King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Laramie (Longhorn). I expect the new Denali to be a real looker.
Totally different interior, LEDs everywhere, 8-speed auto, 4.5L Duramax for the 1500.
Well I really do not think the current GM trucks are that far behind the Ford or Dodge. MPG is within 1-2 for a V8 and my 5.3 in a 4x4 gets 22mpg highway at 60 mph, so only 1 mpg behind a new Ford V6. Style to each his own on that front, but I like my 07 NBS.
Now what I want is a lighting package, not off road lights but work lights. In this day and age we should have from the factory a LED light package for the bed area. And we should have a area LED light package for around the pickup. How many people work on a job site with pickups. I'm not talking huge football field lighting, just some lighting under and around the rear bumper. Under the doors, maybe front end. And more light in the interior. Those two lights in the roof do very little when trying to find things in a back corner of the cab. Of course if they could come up with some lights that fold up from under the bed rails and then can move side to side that would be cool.
I hope they not only make a Raptor fighter, but also a fast low slung street fighter.
Agreed, 8-speed automatic, 4.5L and 2.8L Duramax engines. Turbo gas V-6. The GMC All Terrain HD concept would be great to see in show rooms to fill the space between the Ford Raptor and the Ram Power Wagon.
My list:
1. Raptor fighter
2. Base V6
3. Better interior design and materials
4. Top of line trim levels to combat Ford (ties in well with Akerson's push for more profit)
5. Better styling. The current trucks have no character
6. More convenience features (lighting, ladders)
7. Better cabin NVH
GM #1 should bring the image of its trucks back up and #2 worry about its profits.
To bring that image back and get respect, it has to crawl up on top of competition and stay there, when ford will redesign its f150 for 2015 MY, GM will need to counter attack with with refresh for 2016 MY.
What I want to see is tougher truck with unsurpassed technology. Not just powertrain tough, but body and frame as well. High quality materials, Baby Duramax would be a sweet spot if the price is right. GM be a truck that offers both IFS and SFA on LD's and HD's, trims that compete with king ranch, raptor, Harley Davidson, and platinum in a Chevy, offer a mega cab fighter, 4500 and 5500 models are more then welcome to join.

1500 trim: V8 powertrain but better than Ecobust (!) MPG thanks to lower base vehicle weight, more efficient V8 and 8 speed transmission.
More distinctive trim lines catering to more specific tastes. Hate to say it but I think Ford has it right on this one.
Ensure latest electronic connections built in inc BT for phone and streaming stereo, power etc.

Maintain existing Tow ratings.

A short box regular cab sport version that is lowered from the factory. A homeowner/commuter light duty good mileage vehicle for commuting and some weekend chores but looks cool.
The new Z71 needs to be a Raptor killer.
