General Motors has released a Safety Recall for certain units of the 2023 GMC Canyon pickup that were produced with front-seat belt buckle bolts improperly fastened by the seat supplier.
“General Motors is voluntarily recalling certain model-year 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorados and 2023 GMC Canyons for front-seat belt buckle bolts that may not be properly fastened to the seat side structure,” the automaker said in a statement provided to GM Authority. “Dealers will inspect affected vehicles and make the necessary repairs. The safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”
The problem: 2023 GMC Canyon trucks that are affected by this issue were built with front seat belt buckle bolts improperly fastened to the seat side structure.
The hazards: if a 2023 GMC Canyon with improperly fastened front seat belt buckle bolts is involve in an accident, the seat belt may not perform as intended in certain crash conditions, increasing the risk of injury.
The fix: certified GM service technicians are instructed to tighten seat belt buckle attachment bolts to the specified torque for both front seats.
The fix should take about 0.5 hours to complete. No new parts are needed for this repair.

Number of affected vehicles: 56 GMC Canyon units are affected by this recall in total, along with 95 Chevy Colorado units, for a total of 151 vehicles. Involved pickup trucks must be held in inventory until inspected and the fix applied if necessary.
