Shane Van Gisbergen Lands Full Time NASCAR Chevy Cup Series Ride In 2025

Shane van Gisbergen will continue his American stock car racing venture in 2025. He’ll move up to the Cup Series with Trackhouse Racing, where he will take control of the No. 88 NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 full-time.

Van Gisbergen is still in the midst of his first full-time Xfinity Series season, driving the No. 97 Camaro fielded by Kaulig Racing. So far, he has three wins – all on road or street courses – and is fifth in the Playoffs picture and 12th in overall points. His entry into the Cup Series next year will put him on track next to Ross Chastain, driver of the No. 1 NASCAR Chevy Camaro, and Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Camaro, as Trackhouse transitions to a three-car team.

“This is a big day in so many ways for Trackhouse Racing, Shane, Chevrolet and race fans around the world,” said Trackhouse founder and owner Justin Marks in a statement. “This is an important step for our organization and it’s a credit to the men and women at Trackhouse Racing whose hard work and success the last few years has led to us expanding to three Cup teams in 2025.”

He added, “It’s also a big step up for Shane who took a chance on Trackhouse Racing, moved here from New Zealand and now joins the most competitive stock car racing series in the world. Everyone will get to watch one of the world’s racing superstars compete in the NASCAR Cup Series next year.”

Shane Van Gisbergen is a three-time Australian Supercars Championship title winner with 80 individual race wins in the division. He took part in Trackhouse’s Project 91 entry in 2023, winning his first Cup Series start before making the leap into NASCAR full-time.

“This is what I have planned for and I am ready,” Shane van Gisbergen said. “I know there is a tough learning curve ahead, but the best way to learn is to go out and do it. I feel I have made progress running the Xfinity Series this year with Kaulig Racing and I can’t thank everyone there enough. I look forward to the Cup Series. Those drivers and teams are the best in the world and it will be an honor to be part of their races.”

The sponsor lineup for the No. 88 NASCAR Chevy will be announced at a later date. Stephen Doran will serve as crew chief for the entry. The No. 88 has been retired since 2020. Alex Bowman last drove with the numbers on his door; prior to that, Dale Earnhardt Jr. raced the No. 88 Chevy.

  • He is really enjoying himself here in the USA, He drives Xfinity on Saturday and Cup series on Sunday, plus he is doing it all on his own. Because in Australia they only drive once a month and then that is only for one hour. Any more than one hour they need a second driver while the main driver has a rest.
