GM To Resume Two-Shift Chevy S10 Production In Brazil

Three months after the launch of the updated 2025 Chevy S10 in Brazil, General Motors has just announced that it will resume the second production shift of the midsize pickup in that country.

The automaker’s Brazilian subsidiary announced a new hiring program to resume the second production shift of the Chevy S10 starting in the fourth quarter of the year at the GM São José dos Campos plant, the only GM facility worldwide that manufactures Chevrolet’s midsize truck for the international market. The move comes amid sustained increased demand for the updated 2025 S10 in Brazil’s domestic market.

Specifically, GM will resume the second shift of Chevy S10 production at the São José dos Campos complex in October – just a year after the company halted said shift at the plant in October 2023. AutoData revealed that the new hiring program will add about 200 temporary workers to the plant’s current workforce of 3,150, which also builds the Chevy TrailBlazer SUV and the powertrain for these two models.

“The resumption of the second shift will be partial, necessary to meet local demand for the new Chevrolet S10,” said Communications Department of GM Brazil. “To this end, there will be hiring of approximately two hundred employees for a fixed term at the company complex in São José dos Campos,” the company added.

With the resumption of the second shift at the complex, production of the Chevy S10 in São José dos Campos will initially increase from 170 to 220 units per day and could increase further depending on demand. For this reason, GM says the resumption of the second shift will be partial and union sources indicate that it will initially add six units per hour to daily production, in contrast to the fixed 23 units per hour of the first shift.

The Chevy S10’s second production shift at the Brazilian plant will start in October, adding at least 1,000 units built per month of the updated midsize pickup, which will improve its competitiveness and give it a real chance to fight for sales leadership in its segment in Brazil. The new jobs will be temporary, with a duration of one year, extendable for one more year.

  • Please bring back the extended cab/4wd/V6 either in the S-10 or the Colorado. Have a 24 Colorado, it's pretty worthless for hauling anything with the short box. Not everyone wants or needs a family vehicle with a dinky box and 4 doors. Whatever happened to being able to buy what you want or need?

  • Good Lord, could they have made this "new" S-10 any more ugly....and useless? The original S-10 pick-ups were both good looking and functional. GM should have made a "retro style" S-10 similar to the 2003 models.
