MEGA Hot Wheels Launches Cadillac ATS-V.R Kit: Video

While the Cadillac ATS-V was a widely praised luxury sports car back in its day, the Cadillac ATS-V.R was a successful race car developed under GT3 regulations for racing in the Pirelli World Challenge from 2015 to 2017. For those who wish to capture some of the ATS-V.R’s glory, Hot Wheels and MEGA are now offering a model kit of the purpose-built track machine.

Available exclusively at Target for nearly $30, this buildable 1:24 scale model features an authentically designed interior – which even includes a manual shifter and center console – rolling wheels, a removable hood, racing deco and the obligatory massive rear wing. Designed for ages 13 and up, this kit includes 319 bricks and pieces for assembly.

It’s worth noting that the set also features a matching Hot Wheels die-cast model for double the fun.

For additional background on the race car this model is based on, the Cadillac ATS-V.R was built upon an ATS-V Coupe and was developed in collaboration with Pratt & Miller. Driver Johnny O’Connell won the aforementioned Pirelli World Challenge in 2015, along with fourth- and sixth-place finishes in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Meanwhile, driver Michael Cooper finished third in 2016 and second in 2017.

As for specifications, the ATS-V.R was powered by a racing variant of the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, dubbed the LF4.R. As a race car engine, the LF4.R featured several upgrades designed with GT3 racing in mind, including larger turbochargers, bigger intercoolers, side-exit exhaust, and a competition-spec engine management system. Output was rated at up to 600 horsepower.

On the aerodynamics side, the ATS-V.R’s aero kit gave the track weapon a purposeful stance. Of course, the aero package was intended for more than just looks, as a carbon fiber front splitter with corner-mounted dive planes kept the front end glued to the track, while a full undertray directed air to the rear diffuser for additional downforce.
