GM’s Baojun EQ100 MPV Launches As Yun Duo In China

Following the official debut of the all-new Baojun EQ100 in May and the recent reveal of its interior design, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has just officially launched Baojun‘s new all-electric MPV as the Yun Duo in China.

General Motors’ second joint venture in China has launched the all-new Baojun EQ100 MPV in the Chinese domestic market, where it is named “云朵” or Yun Duo, which means cloud in Chinese. The new multipurpose vehicle expands Baojun’s range of all-electric vehicles with an unprecedented family-friendly body style for the brand, introducing the new Sky Aesthetics design language and a spacious interior to comfortably transport five people.

In particular, the new Baojun EQ100 is the third member of the brand’s new family of zero-emission models after the Baojun KiWi EV minicar and the Baojun Yep off-road mini crossover. In addition, the EQ100 / Yun Duo represents the first corporate zero-emission MPV and the largest all-electric vehicle developed by SGMW so far – which specializes in low-cost mini cars such as the Wuling MINI EV.

The Baojun EQ100 launch lineup consists of four variants spread out in three trim levels clearly inspired by the smartphone market, called Plus, Pro and Max. All come standard with comprehensive technology and safety equipment, including Baojun’s most advanced connectivity package, managed through the large 15.6-inch infotainment screen, with no redundant physical buttons, and the 8.8-inch digital driver instrument panel.

Mechanically, the all-new Baojun EQ100 / Yun Duo is equipped with a single electric motor that generates 100 kW or 134 horsepower and 330 Nm or 243 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain can be fed by one of two available battery packs, with a capacity of 37.9 kWh or 50.6 kWh, respectively providing a driving range of 360 km (224 miles) and 460 km (286 miles) to satisfy the needs of different user profiles.

The all-new Baojun EQ100 is now available for sale in the brand’s dealer network in China, the only country in the world where Baojun models are manufactured and marketed so far. It boasts convenience features like wireless smartphone charging, 265-color ambient lighting, a power liftgate, a 360-degree camera system, electronic stability control, automatic braking, and rain-sensing wipers.

Pricing for the four variants of the Baojun EQ100 or Yun Duo in China is as follows:

  • EQ100 Plus: 95,800 yuan (about $13,240 USD at the current exchange rate)
  • EQ100 Pro 1: 103,800 yuan ($13,240 USD)
  • EQ100 Pro 2: 115,800 yuan ($16,000 USD)
  • EQ100 Max: 123,800 yuan ($17,010 USD)

  • This entry level EV would be a big hit here in the USA. Stylish, roomy and affordable. GM ought to use it as a template for the second generation Bolt.

    • StuartH: Although I huge part of why I purchased my Bolt is because of it being from an American brand and assembled in the US. So I am really hopeful that GM keeps the new Bolt assembly in the US. However, I was kind of thinking the same thing. This seems like it could be the next Bolt.
