GM has just officially revealed the name and the first teaser images of the Buick concept vehicle that will be on display during the 2022 Buick Brand Day in China. The all-new Buick Electra-X Concept will show off the brand’s vision of intelligent mobility and the design direction of a future electric crossover.
The automaker announced that the Buick Electra-X Concept is the first vehicle entirely based on its Ultium battery and Ultium drive motor technology. This advanced vehicle is a preview of what the future fully electric Buick models will look like.
The Buick Electra-X Concept is the second crossover concept unveiled in China to use the iconic Electra name. The first one called the Buick Electra Concept was presented at the 2020 Beijing International Motor Show, the first preview of the brand’s vision for its future zero-emission vehicles but boasting a show car design that’s far from a potential production vehicle.
Now, things are very different with the Buick Electra-X Concept, as the brand claims it’s much closer to a production vehicle, and introduces a new design language for Buick’s all-electric era. Teaser images of the Electra-X Concept show a front end with organic, shark-nose-like lines and slim Matrix LED headlights, which differ from those on the upcoming Buick EV crossover.
The Buick Electra-X Concept offers a spacious cabin equipped with the latest technological innovations from the Tri-Shield brand, such as the next-generation Super Cruise hands-free driving assistant and the Virtual Cockpit system, designed to provide an immersive driving experience.
The all-new Buick Electra-X Concept will make its world debut in June during the 2022 Buick Brand Day in Shanghai. At this important event, the automaker will present its latest technology and product developments for the Chinese market. GM announced that this model was designed based on the demands of Chinese consumers, which allows us to assume that it will be an exclusive vehicle for the Asian Country.

Man, I saw the title and the word Electra and for a very short time I had hope. Yes I noticed the X after the Electra, but I still had hope. Then read the first paragraph and came to this:
"The all-new Buick Electra-X Concept will show off the brand’s vision of intelligent mobility and the design direction of a future electric crossover."
How sad. Yet another crossover. If they intend to do another crossover, I wish they would come up with something other than Electra. That name deserves to be ONLY on a sleek lower roof sedan. Not another crossover.
Strange, for me it was the last paragraph that was hardest to digest, when I came to this: "GM announced that this model was designed based on the demands of Chinese consumers, which allows us to assume that it will be an exclusive vehicle for the Asian Country."
If it were a sedan, I can see why it would be China-exclusive. Perhaps the design is too wild for North American buyers?
However, I have heard this was shown to US dealers at some conference a few weeks back to gauge their reaction so never say never.
Let’s not forget that the original Buick Verano was designed for the Chinese market as the Excelle GT and Buick ended up selling it here for a few years.
One of Buick's most popular vehicles is the large GL8 Van and they just came out with the GL8 Century. It has many of the same design elements here on the Electra.
I know but that’s also for the Chinese market. The newer designs coming out in China tend to be a little more ”out there” to appeal to the younger and growing middle class there.
Looks quite nice, although the pictures don't show much.
I was at the dealer meeting in Las Vegas. Buick is changing, and in a good way. When you see what they have set for the future your moth will drop to the floor as the 3000 dealers in that meeting did. Patience. 😁
Hi SLM,
Thank you for commenting.
Was the "groovy" Wildcat shown at the dealer meeting?
Is that what the dark blue teaser of the left headlamp will show, a concept Wildcat?
Ummmmmmmm.......... 🤷♂️😁
SLM,
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard this from GM, I’d be the one buying Twitter. There’s always something good coming for the patient. Trust me though, as some one who has closely watched GM for quite a while, don’t get excited. They show beautiful things like Buick Avenir concept but the reality turns out to be trim package on the same ole’ boring stuff. There is no bright future in America for Buick. I’m sorry to have to say that but there isn’t. The brand has been in decline here for decades and I expect it to be withdrawn from the US market instead.
SLM: I certainly hope you are right here. Buick (and we) need it!!
I can only pray that not every single thing Buick has coming out will be an SUV or CUV.
Moths always drop to the floor after i hit them with the fly swatter!
Before all the piss and moan let’s just see the rest of this vehicle. It may not be suited for the American market.
With these platforms they can do more to Taylor the vehicles to each market more since they will not need to develop all different drive trains and platforms.
Cybertruck type angular styling on a new 800hp plus coupe named GNX. How bout it?
The name "ELECTRA" does not require the "X" here. Just give the HP or torque number here. Remember Electra 225? Buick has always stood for understated class, like a Cadillac without the unwanted hype and attention. Usually more durable and reliable.
GM’s change in direction, and lineup, broke my heart many years ago. The badge engineering was always evident, but GM had style like no other automotive firm. China my eye. Oh, well. I am now just an old fool.
Buy American! Keep our people working!
What kind of traitor douchebag downvotes this? Says it all right there.
These teasing glimpse of yet another new Buick Electra-X Concept design details are indeed very exciting, and look highly promising for the Buick brand and GM. It looks very futuristic and stand out from the competition, especially against the imports. Looks more production ready than the first Electra Concept 2020. I am sure the rest of the whole vehicle design is exciting and fabulous too.
Buick definitely needs a winner. Looking forward soon to the all electric Buick models.
Here in Canada, there are huge demands for electric vehicles and customers have to be on a long waiting list for them.
Bright future for Buick & GM. China has appreciated Buick's, so should North Americans.
