Man Buys New New Opel Astra… With YouTube Views

Financing a car is so last decade; paying for a car with YouTube views? That’s what’s in. Opel launched its unique “Pay by View” campaign this past April and it paid off for one now-owner.

Yuri Schuurkes uploaded his video, titled “Spider-Man Attacks Opel Dealer-Cars Are For Humans,” as his shot to purchase a new Opel with just YouTube views. In fact, he came out on top after all of his work.  Per Opel’s rules, each participant was to shoot a video test driving an Opel Online Edition. If the video returned enough views, the videomaker would be allowed to purchase the car with just the video views.

So far, Schuurkes video has earned over 1.5 million views on YouTube, which allowed him to easily surpass the 922,800 needed to purchase the car. The Astra Online Edition is valued at €23,070, or roughly $26,000. It pays to be a YouTuber.

The campaign runs until the end of this month or until each of the Online Editions has been sold. Check out Schuurkes video up above.
