Holden Commodore Tourer Revealed With Rugged Aspirations

Yesterday, Buick finally let the cat out of the station wagon sized bag when it revealed the 2018 Buick Regal TourX. While Americans adjust to the idea that, yes, there will be a station wagon offered by a mainstream General Motors brand once again, Australians have been graced with their version.

Simply called the Holden Commodore Tourer, it’s an exact copy of the Regal TourX, in which both will be copies of the Opel Insignia Country Tourer. Interestingly, Opel has yet to reveal the Country Tourer variant. As for the Holden, we know what you’re thinking: it’s the rebirth of the Adventra. Maybe in spirit, but not quite.

The Commodore Tourer features a 0.79 inch raised right height over the regular Commodore Sportwagon and the same rugged cues found on the Regal TourX. Those include the plastic body cladding and standard roof racks. But Holden has high hopes for its actual capability, too.

“The Commodore Tourer body-style is designed for the self-aware buyer who appreciates the style, seating comfort and practicality of a sportwagon with a bit more capability,” said Holden’s Director – Design, Richard Ferlazzo.

It features torque vectoring all-wheel drive with driver mode preference to condition the Commodore Tourer in however the driver likes. Whether it’s car parks or the unbeaten path, the Commodore Tourer is said to be ready for either.

Holden says much of the testing was completed in Australia to give the Commodore Tourer a distinct feel from its Opel and Buick counterparts. Though, the brand did not mention a choice if powertrains for the Commodore Tourer. North America’s Regal TourX will be paired exclusively with a 2.0-liter LTG turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic.

The adventure-inspiring Commodore Tourer will arrive ready to tackle Oz’s conditions in 2018, following the launch of the 2018 NG Commodore liftback.
