Fresh off scoring Corvette Racing its 100th ever win at Lime Rock Park, drivers Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin gave the team its 101st in a wildly exciting fashion at Road America Sunday.
Milner was fifth in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship race when the third and final caution of the race came out. When racing got back under way, Milner managed work his way around the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR of Frederic Makowiecki and steal fourth.
While Milner was fighting for points mid-pack, the race for first was heating up. The No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR of Nick Tandy was running in third and attempted to pass second place’s Toni Vilander in his Ferrari 488 GTE and first’s Richard Westbrook in his Ford GT. Tandy then spun, making a fight between Vilander and Westbrook.
Shortly after, Vilander made contact with a Mazda Prototype and spun as well, giving Milner a clear shot at the win as he closed in on Westbrook. The American driver then successfully worked his way around the slightly battered Ford GT, completing his move from fifth to first in the final five minutes of the 2 hour and 40 minute affair.
It was one of the most exciting wins in recent Corvette Racing history. If you missed the race, IMSA has done us all a huge favor and uploaded it in full to their YouTube page, so be sure to check it out embedded above. If you did catch the race, we think you’d agree this one’s worth reliving once or twice.
