Holden Cruze To Cease Production This Year

Holden is merely one year out from ceasing production entirely in its home country of Australia, but 2016 will really begin the end.

Holden has officially announced it will end Cruze production some time this year, likely before the 2016 Opel Astra K arrives in Oz around September, according to Motoring. The brand reiterated it will continue to stage a gradual reduction in the Elizabeth plant’s workforce, rather than cut everything all at once.

The 2016 Holden Commodore Series II and 2016 Holden Cruze are built on the same production line at the Elizabeth assembly, where 1,100 workers remain.

“We have approximately 1,100 people at the Elizabeth factory. Of those, it’s approximately 1000 production workers of various levels and responsibilities. Cruze and Commodore are built on the same production lines, so virtually all our production employees work on Cruze,” Holden communications director, Sean Poppitt, said.

Holden had previously been granted an extension for Euro5 compliant regulations, which will help the locally-built Commodore last until 2017.

The Holden Cruze Z-Series was revealed weeks ago, and will likely round out the final edition of locally built Cruze in the country.

  • To all the guys and girls at Holden Elizabeth Plant.
So sad the end is near but take pride in who you are and what you have achieved over the years.
From 1948 Aussies like you have been building the best car in the world but all good things come to an end.
I don't work for Holden nor any related Company but I'm proud to be a Holden man and I will always respect you guys for what you achieved and built for us.
    Thanks. Tony
