Today in Milford General Motors will give analysts and reporters an update on its outlook for the remainder of 2014 and for 2015 at Milford Proving Ground. Attendees will also be able to drive GM’s newest vehicles and try out the latest technology.
Sales for GM in the U.S. and China have been strong, but the Detroit Free Press points out that in Europe − in Russia especially − and South America, things are not so hot. As GM has a strong presence in those regions, its performance may suffer accordingly on the balance sheet.
Citi analyst Itay Michaeli in particular is interested on more details on how GM will improve its performance over the next three years, especially with Cadillac, one of GM’s two global brands.
“We’d like to see a strong and detailed message around technology leadership and brand definition, particularly at Cadillac,” Michaeli said.
And then there’s the defective ignition switch recall, which has impacted GM more than anything else in its history. CEO Mary Barra will likely face questions about the financial impact of the debacle, which includes the recall and repair of 2.6 million cars, and the compensation fund for victims of the defect.
With the end of the third quarter next Tuesday, GM will report financial results for the July-September period on October 23.
