2024 Silverado EV RST To Gain Four Wheel Steer Sidewinder Mode Via Update

As GM Authority reported last week, the Chevy Silverado EV is the latest GM vehicle to get a diagonal driving feature. It’s the same idea as GMC’s CrabWalk and Cadillac’s Arrival Mode, but the Chevy version is called Sidewinder Mode.

So, what does Sidewinder Mode do? It turns all four wheels in the same direction at speeds up to 20 mph for greater maneuverability in tricky off-roading and parallel parking. One could argue it’s more gimmicky than useful, but it’s a neat party trick nonetheless, and it’s exclusive to GM.

Sidewinder mode comes standard on the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV RST, but owners of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition haven’t missed out. Since it’s already equipped with four-wheel steering, GM is sending out Sidewinder Mode as an over-the-air update to 2024 models. Unfortunately, it’s not available for the more affordable WT models.

To engage Sidewinder Mode, press Controls on the infotainment screen, navigate to Rear Steering, and select Sidewinder Mode. Graphics on the 17.7-inch infotainment screen and a message on the 11.1-inch instrument cluster will make it clear that Sidewinder Mode is active and ready for maneuvering.

In addition to the new Sidewinder Mode, other updates to the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV include the addition of the midrange LT trim, three battery pack options, an increased maximum range estimate of 492 miles, and five new paint options. Pricing for the 2025 model starts at $57,095 for the WT trim, $75,195 for the new LT model, and $89,395 for the sporty RST model.

We’re expecting the rugged Trail Boss trim to join the lineup at some point for the 2025 model year, but we may be waiting until the 2026 model for the off-roader. Since it’s touted as a feature for off-roading, we can’t help but wonder if the Silverado EV Trail Boss will also get standard Sidewinder Mode.

The GM BT1 platform continues to provide structure for the pickup’s second model year. Production of the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV kicked off on September 3rd, 2024 at the GM Factory Zero plant in Hamtramck, Michigan.
