Is there any classic American car quite so stunning as an old Chevrolet Impala? No, we don’t think so, either.
This drop-dead gorgeous 1958 example is going up for auction at this year’s Mecum classic cars auction in Anaheim, California. The event will take place from the 13th of November through the 15th.
This 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible is completely restored. The rebuilt factory carburetors feed a suspiciously clean 348 cubic-inch motor, with the correct two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. The car also has a continental kit spare – that is, the external rear-mounted covered spare found on so many older classics. The restored tri-color Coral interior is historically accurate, and somewhere you will never, ever drop crumbs. Or else.
Despite the age, the car still features its fair share of modernity in the form of power brakes, power steering, power windows, and even a power top. Its spinner wheel covers do an astonishingly good job at recalling the propeller-looking rims found on the Corvette C2, and in the rear are some elegant tear-shaped fender flares.
This car looks so clean, we would gladly eat off of it. That said, we don’t recommend doing that, lest you ruin the spotless Snowcrest paint job.

Why? Because GM styling no longer leads, it follows.
This website is getting to be a real pain in the ass. I just had another good comment get dumped. Please get an auto-restore feature so we don't have to try to reconfigure what we just typed in. Anyway, I don't think GM has a problem with styling and being a follower. I think they do pretty good for the most part. Styling is subjective and you're not always going to please everybody. Once in a while you're going to get a Malibu or the butt end of the Impala. IMO there are no Azteks in the portfolio at the present time.
