With General Motors widely publicized safety recall still making headlines, you would think that the confidence and overall enthusiasm of its workforce would have dropped off a little bit. However according to a recent report from The Detroit Free Press, company morale has actually risen in recent months.
GM North America President Mark Reuss said an internal study revealed morale among global GM employees has risen when compared to a similar study done in 2012. He said the gains can be traced to a “renewed emphasis on transparency” at the company post recall crisis.
“Honestly, the survey people said we’ve never seen improvement like what we saw here,” said Reuss.
So far, GM has been fairly forthcoming with its knowledge of the faulty ignition switches. The company is also fast tracking the recalls for other potential defects, which may be reasons for an increased sense of company morale.
GM has hired investigator Anthony Valukas to conduct an internal investigation of the company to try and find out why it took so long to recall the defective vehicles. The results of that probe are expected to be released in coming weeks. The automaker is also under investigation from the U.S. Department of Justice, Congress and the National Highway Traffic Administration for its handling of the matter.

Moral is improved as the people left have been empowered to do their jobs with much less micro managing.
Also many that have been part of the problem there are now gone and have freed up those who are there now that were not part of the problem.
Imagine the engineers when they were told to do the Z/28. Or think of the C7 team when they were told not to cheap out on the interior.
Even better yet think of the Cadillac drivetrain people who were told put the two turbochargers on the CTS and keep working on the Direct Injected V8 and the coming Turbo V8.
This is what makes people happy not cut this and cheap out on that.
Imagine the moral when they told the team to use a Cavalier as the base for their new BMW fighter vs. the ATS team being given the lead on the Alpha platform.
Damn right things are much happier there in most areas.
If I was making his money my morale would be pretty high too.
