Chevrolet brought back the COPO Camaro program in 2012, but with only 69 units made each year and General Motors not handing them out to just anyone, they are a little hard to come by. However, Keyes Chevrolet in Menomonie, Wisconsin threw one up for sale on eBay recently, giving Camaro enthusiasts the rare opportunity to own one of these exclusive factory racecars.
The COPO was designed to compete in the NHRA Stock and Super Stock Eliminator classes. In 2013, it was offered with the choice of either an LSX-based supercharged 327 engine, a naturally aspirated LSX 350, a naturally aspirated LSX 396, or the engine which this car has, a 7.0-liter LS7. It is also number eight of 19 COPO’s built in 2013 with a manual transmission.
You might be reluctant to purchase a used racecar, after all, you know it’s been thrashed on the drag strip, but this COPO’s odometer reads exactly zero. This would make it a prime candidate for any collector looking to add a rare piece of American muscle to their collection. Seeing as Chevy asked about $100,000 for a brand-new COPO, in a few year’s time these might fetch a pretty penny at an auction – especially if its never made a quarter-mile pass.
