The 2014 Oscars aired this weekend, once again snubbing Leonardo DiCaprio. And in between Hollywood back-patting each other were some rather clever ads, one of them being “Speed Chaser.” The short film also doubled as a Chevrolet Cruze commercial and was made by South Korean independent filmmaker Jude Chun and co-directors Eunhae Cho and Sunyoung Hwang.
“‘Speed Chaser” was shot in a field near Hwaseong City, South Korea,” Chun said. “We had one day of principal photography, and a half-day for pickups. Our total budget was about $4,000.”
Chun submitted the short film to Chevrolet and Mofilm’s international Oscars competition and was chosen out of 72 in total. This competition supported Chevrolet’s new campaign “Find New Roads.” The innocence of childhood and the power of imagination is what really helps to sell the spot. Enjoy it just below.
