General Motors has long dominated the full-size SUV market with its Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon Denali, and Cadillac Escalade family. These vehicles are also highly profitable for GM, as the automaker likes to brag that the profits it makes from the sale of these prized horses alone would be good enough to make the Fortune 400. So with those kinds of figures in mind, The General has priced the 2015 Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon families. Unsurprisingly, they’re more expensive than ever before.
The most basic of Tahoes, the LT 2WD, will set you back $45,890, while a Yukon XL Denali 4×4 runs nearly $70,000. Keep in mind, too, that the 6.2L V8 L86 is currently only available in the 2015 Yukon Denali models, and not Chevrolet’s SUVs. For those wondering why this is, the answer is very simple: the take rate on 6.2L V8 Tahoes and Suburbans was minute back when it was actually offered.
The chart below reflects the MSRP of every Chevrolet and GMC full-size SUV. Keep in mind that the prices include the $995 destination fee.
VEHICLE | TRIM 1 | TRIM 2 | TRIM 3 |
---|---|---|---|
2015 TAHOE (2WD) | LS – $45,890 | LT – $50,995 | LTZ – $59,995 |

Yup. It's no secret Lincoln is on the bottom n not challenging any luxury car makers... Agree. No argument!
Butt they have been working on All New products for the past few years n the All New aluminum Navigator won't appear for at least 2 years...
That is when things could change for Lincoln in the Big SUV segment
Exclusive 700 lbs lighter wt plus powerful n efficient EcoBoost engines n shared 10 speed auto with world class design n tech features will change a lot of minds about Lincoln
Not going to happen over night butt in a few years... Beware the underdog!
The 2015 Navigator just made it's debut, they won't be releasing an aluminum Navi anytime soon.
2 years won't be enough. It's taken Cadillac 12 years with some missteps, but much more time and effort will be needed; it nevertheless is in better shape with each passing year.
For the sake of argument, lets say an all new aluminum Navigator debuts in 2 years time. Then what? Is that all Lincoln has? Is a new Navigator going to dethrone the GL? What about the rest of Lincoln's products; do they all hang on a promise 2 years down the road?
It's all stop gaps; unacceptable stop gaps in an industry where they are a signal of incompetence. Every generation of Escalade since its inception has been all new; there were never any stop gaps. Why should Lincoln get a free pass for it's Navigator's negligence; just because they promise to do better 2 years from now?
The "new" Expedition and Navigator more or less show Ford's lack of commitment to the segment. GM owns this market, and it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. That said, the Escalade is a unique luxury vehicle, but the compromises it features from being bunched in with the rest of the truck program is abundant, and one only needs to sit in a Range Rover to understand the differences in quality between the Cadillac and the British Marquee. The 2015 Escalade is new, but not new enough.
Lincoln is on life support and is ten years behind Cadillac at this point.
Even those at Lincoln admit this. They can turn it around but it will take a lot of investment and time to do so.
The large SUV is not going to save Lincoln in the future. They need cars that can compete like a CTS with the global market and to this point they have yet to produce one.
What is often overlooked here is a car like Cadillac can bring in two thirds of the profits of the car lines even sold in limited numbers. This is a the second most profitable segment outside trucks and that is why GM is fixing Cadillac before Buick.
Cadillac is a profit center even at low volume. Lincoln needs to be but Ford has nor focused on the division as they should have. They are now working on it but are years away from where they need to be and still have billions to invest to see a decent return.
This is why companies like Hyundai etc. are all offering Luxury models as they are values profit centers if done right.
Hey guys. I agree Lincoln n Navigator have been grossly neglected for over 10 years and r Not competitive... Agreed!!!
My point is beware the underdog when he has nothing too loose and may surprise you...!
Ford is finally investing in Lincoln n they need 10 years to go thru a few product cycles to fix it... Just like Caddy
Even though a car is high price n "positioned " as luxury does Not always mean the market will accept it.... See the ELR is Not selling at $75k n CTS is slow.... Market is hesitant to give Caddy these high prices vs Germans .... Could be a problem for too high price Escalade vs much cheaper Nav...!
There are lots of segments in the market n Too Many Mfgrs r trying to compete in the same segment like Germans.... Not enough market for everyone...
So Lincoln will Not be positioned vs Germans like Caddy is chasing
There is underserved market where Lincoln is positioning... Not everyone needs to compete with M3. AMG n S from Germany
Lincoln will establish its own niche without need for high performance ... Think mix of Lexus luxury n BMW handling with Audi refinement n American heritage... That could be New Lincoln
By the way... China Loves n recognizes Lincoln heritage!
With the 2015 Navigator, it's clear Ford still isn't taking Lincoln seriously. Anyone buying a Lincoln is better off getting a Platinum model of the original Ford that the Lincoln is based on.
"My point is beware the underdog when he has nothing too loose and may surprise you…!"
Or may just be a smoke screen and a paper tiger. There is nothing at Lincoln to 'be ware' of. Panoramic roofs aren't game changing, and are really just big sunroofs. And putting things off until 2 years from now is just plain laziness.
"Lincoln will establish its own niche without need for high performance … Think mix of Lexus luxury n BMW handling with Audi refinement n American heritage… That could be New Lincoln"
Without the need for performance models? You've never heard of RS, M, or F, have you? Without any performance halo cars, Lincoln won't have as much interest, or demand.
Don't worry about the full-size cars. The Town Cars were garbage and never had a chance against the S-class. The MKS successor is just as powerless.
But remember, you can always put it off until 2016! The lazy Lincoln way!
You call the Town Car garbage? I'll have you know, sir, that nothing floats quite like a body-on-frame sedan with a bench seat. You really forget how comfortable cars used to be until you road trip in one of those cruisers.
Having one of the last Town Cars in the family I can say first hand it was garbage. It was nothing but a gussied up Crown Vic.
I hate it as much as the DTS my in laws now have. I drove it Sunday and have had boats that had more feel and feed back.
To be fair the 2015 Nav is only a mild refresh and is losing the V8. Lincoln can come back but it will take some real investment and 10 years to reach the point of Cadillac. Right now they have no viable real global competitor. They really need to get back to RWD and AWD with a platform designed for them that could be adapted to a Ford vs. the Ford platform adapted to a Lincoln. The refinement is just not there.
With GM the Alpha was built for Cadillac and when they put the two Chevys on it they will benefit of the refinement they would not have had if they started as Chevys.
You can dumb down a great platform but you can not move a ok platform to the top level and expect world class results. Ford burned its RWD bridges while GM realized before it was too late there was still a need for some RWD.
I agree... No argument Lincoln has been grossly neglected and is NOT competitive...!
Butt time n money can cure lots if ills n Ford is Finally investing in Lincoln n recognize it will take At Least 10 years n a few product cycles...!
Imagine if Lincoln took the new Mustang platform n made a midsize RWD sedan with suicide doors n the 5.0 v8 with 10-speed auto n hot styling like the old Continentals from the early 60s.... Could bring back Hot Rod Lincoln of the good ole days...!!! That world be a game changer for Lincoln but they must execute n get the design right... Stay tuned...!!!
Lincoln needs to follow the segment with cars similar to the CTS and ATS in RWD and FWD. They have the engines but no platform.
The key is they need to make it light ride well but confident in handling. The suicide doors are out as they would only add weight to meet the crash standards. You can get away with it in a nearly 3 ton Rolls but not is a Lincoln uni-body.
They have brought in some Cadillac people to Ford and I expect they will make similar moves to GM but it will take time. The question is will they give the time and money they need.
The sooner they replace the Taurus based FWD cars the better as even Cadillac has found that to not be enough. You could keep one as the XTS fighter but that is all. In time I suspect Cadillac will move the XTS to fight the smaller Benz and BMW FWD models.
Lincoln needs to do like Cadillac and create a future look and move into the future with a new style and refine it. They need their own A&S package. Cadillac is not living on tail fins anymore just as Lincoln needs not to return to the past if they can create a better future. There are few waiting for the second coming of the Continental just as they also need to meet the needs of a global market. These cars will be lower volume and will need a global market to live.
The only thing that saved Lincoln was the town car fleet sales for about 10 years and they no longer have that to fall back on. You can do heavy goofy large sun roofs that block the rear window but that will not save the day. Lincoln needs their own Alpha program where they can put the driving dynamics into the car and make it a real car people will be eager to put their money into vs. a fancy Taurus.
I think they will sort it out but it is not going to happen over night. Lincoln is right now about where Cadillac was in 2001. It will take time and investment but they can turn it around.
Lincoln should go its own way n NOT follow everyone into the M3 segment... It's already over crowded!!!
Caddy does follow its "tail fin" past... Just look at all there tail lights n up front vertical light bars... Look good!
Lincoln needs a flagship to draw a crowd n a new RWD Continental off the New Mustang platform will do it but it MUST have suicide doors to stand out n be unique n follow their Continebtal heritage of the 60s...!
I believe Lincoln will sell more in China in a few years than US... They recognize n Want the American Presidents Limosine...!
"Lincoln needs a flagship to draw a crowd n a new RWD Continental off the New Mustang platform will do it but it MUST have suicide doors to stand out n be unique n follow their Continebtal heritage of the 60s…!"
With that kind of strategy, Lincoln will never touch the S-class.
I don't think you understand, but doing another Continental won't be enough. The 60's are long gone, and a luxury car doesn't exist to salute the past. Suicide doors are just as meaningless as the panoramic roof, and wont do a thing for the buyer if all Lincoln is saying is that it's best days are behind it.
Cadillac is coming with the LTS; a car that will forever bury the Fleetwood and Brougham of the past in their coffins of mediocrity. Cadillac will have a competent full-size car that is reflective of the age we now live in, not from 50 years ago. Since 2002, Cadillac has been looking at future rather than the past, and everything Cadillac has been doing since has built their hard-earned reputation and slowly eases the mistakes of the past from memory.
Also, the "tail fins" you see in the tail lights as vestigial. They're harmless, but more importantly, they DON'T dictate design direction by being full-out retro, like your Continental idea. A Cadillac with the "vestigial fins" can get away with it in 2014 because they aren't influencing the entire car.
Finally, you can't shun the mainstream luxury car industry by thinking that Lincoln can carve out it's own little piece with cars that don't follow other segments. The fact of the matter is that Lincoln already does have cars that fit the segments; it's just that Lincoln's offering are habitually sub-standard.
E, 5, A6, TLX, GS, Q50, XF, S60, CTS,......and the MKZ. They are all mid-size luxury sedans, and Lincoln is already playing the game, albeit poorly.
You think abandoning the segment to chase after a retro Continental is going to help Lincoln?
The flag ship thing is so over done. While a Flagship helps with image the division are built on the foundation of a class leading volume product be it a 3 series, CTS or ATS.
The growth and change that has come to Cadillac has come due to the new smaller world class cars. The LTS will help but it is not the key to a turn around as the foundation has already been laid.
While no one should copy a 3 totally they still should shoot for this kind or car segment as this is where the market is. They need to do their own interpretation and make it their own. I hope to see the 3 segment turn into the CTS segment.
If Lincoln wants to really turn things around they need to establish products that do not reek of Ford product. They will have to share platforms as Cadillac but they need to make them more their own. They are working on that now in styling but they really need a more flexible platform that they can use more to their needs and their own tune of the ecoboost engines that set them apart just as the 3.6 TT is doing for Cadillac.
The key here is GM is making great profits with the Cadillac while Ford is losing their shirt there. Out side the F150 Ford should be making a boat load of money with Lincoln but yet they leave a lot on the table.
Hello All. I am looking at leasing a 2015 Yukon XL 1500 SLE the basic model. I know the general rule of thumb is not to lease beyond the warranty period. In our situation 48 months works well with our budget. The MSRP is $53,030 and wondering if anyone knows what the residual value after 48 months, also if anyone knows the associated rate. I know that typically the residual value for a 36 month is 58/60% of MSRP and a rate of 3.6%. I assume for a 48 months these would change. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
