Kansas Speedway was tough on the NASCAR Chevy teams on September 28th, 2024, and almost nobody fared worse than Playoff hopeful Justin Allgaier. His No. 7 Chevy Camaro SS snapped loose after racing with Sheldon Creed’s No. 18 Toyota TRD Supra, and his day only went downhill from there.
Allgaier’s race car spun and hammered the inside wall, causing major damage to his race car. His team got to work quickly and did their best to repair the wrecked NASCAR Chevy race car, but after he was turned back out, his left front tire went down and sent him careening into the outside wall. This time, the damage was too severe to overcome, and he retired from the race, accepting a 36th-place finish.
“I don’t know if I’ve had a stretch of races that have been like these last three or four weeks,” said Allgaier. “We’re not out of it by any stretch. Obviously, that’s why you do all the work to get all the bonus points you can. We’ve got a long road the next two weeks. I’ve got the team that can do it. We’ve just got to go have some luck on our side.”
Rookie Connor Zilisch led The Bow Tie brand at Kansas, finishing fourth in the No. 88 NASCAR Chevy Camaro. Hill finished seventh in the No. 21 Camaro, followed by the No. 97 Camaro of Shane van Gisbergen and No. 2 Camaro of Jesse Love in ninth and 10th, respectively.
Allgaier plummeted from first to ninth in the standings. Cole Custer, driver of the No. 00 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, finished second and now sits in first in the Playoff standings, followed by Chandler Smith, Austin Hill, Sam Mayer, Sheldon Creed, Van Gisbergen, and Love.
