General Motors has started a Customer Satisfaction Program for certain examples of the 2022 model-year Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, as well as the 2022 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, over an issue related to over-the-air software updates.
The problem: affected vehicles may have a condition in which a ‘Download Paused’ message appears on the central display screen while attempting to download and install an over-the-air (OTA) update.
The hazards: while this problem does not pose an immediate safety hazard to the driver or vehicle occupants, it may cause the battery to drain once the OTA update has finished installing. This could leave drivers stranded at their current destination, as the vehicle cannot be started with a dead battery.
The fix: GM will instruct dealers to charge and test the vehicle’s battery. If the battery fails the test, technicians will replace it. The vehicle’s Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM) will also be reprogrammed to prevent future download errors. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Affected components: vehicle battery, Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM)
Affected vehicles:
Number of affected vehicles: it’s currently not clear how many Chevy Tahoe and Suburban or GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles are affected by this particular issue.
Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. Owners that are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this service bulletin can reach out to GM directly with any questions or concerns they may have using the Service Update number and contact information included below.

What is GM still sending out 2022 Tahoes with the battery and upgrade problems or do we just wait and see if it quits on trip 500 miles from home.
it took 9 months to get our 2021 tahoe and battery was dead every morning. dealer said nothing wrong. they put a new battery in and all is well.
My experience has been that once the battery goes completely dead, regardless of how new it is, it will no longer hold a good charge and must be replaced.
My battery has been dead on and off since June 21, 2022. I have a Yukon Denali XL, the dealership still has it. I have been left without a car for over a month. I have a rental now... Still no car.
I am having a similar experience with my new 2022 Tahoe. Drove great for 30 days and now it's dead every morning. They replaced the battery, did the software update and sent it home with me. The next morning - dead. Now it's back at the dealer and I have a rental. So frustrating. They're stumped!
2022 Suburban, started it and all the lights on the dash came on. Warnings about brake system being off and to not go above 48 mph, crash detection off, steering assist off. Parked it for a day and went to take it to dealership and battery was dead. Jumped it and drove to dealership. Seemed ok except check engine light on and media screen not working. Dealership said there were some low voltage codes and the battery checked fine, nothing more they could do but they expect to see me back. Not too excited about my wife and 3 kids in it and the brakes pretty much stop working again.
I cannot help but think that your truck sat in a field and became a rodent hotel while waiting for chips. That's a lot of money you have spent to be "entertaining" these problems. It's time, I think, for you to contact head office and try to resolve this... If this is affecting the safety of your family, I would demand a free replacement until head office and the dealer fix this issue correctly. The last thing GM wants is bad press. I have heard of this issue before but have not heard how it was solved. Good luck, stay safe.
Good afternoon! After 3 new batteries and taking the module out and putting it back in the 2022 Denali, it still was dead two morning later! I traded it in! GM did NOTHING for me! Nothing at all. A guy named Bryce called me once a week on a recorded line to see how my car was doing! I’m so disappointed!!!
I have a 2021 RST Tahoe with the 3.0 Duramax. It's been having transmission issues and the GM engineers have thrown darts at a board for four months. Two valve bodies and a torque converter and the problem persists. I was reminded by my wife that I mentioned that it was strange that it was charging at 16+ volts the day before the problem started. The vehicle had sat for 8 days without being started. I'm starting to think the battery is dying on ours slowly causing the shifting issues.
Funny how this article came out in July '22 and my dealer had no clue when my 22 Yukon XL had a dead battery after the infamous update... This has been one buggy car to say the least.
The service department at my dealership thinks my 2022 Yukon won't start because I left my key fob in it overnight. Thoughts?
That's what my service department is saying too. There is no way my battery should be completely dead because I left the key fob in it overnight.
It’s possible. I have a ‘23 with air ride, and I can hear it in the garage when no one is in the truck losing air or gaining air. Also there are so many electrical gadgets that I believe are on all nite I’m surprised the battery stays charged.
