Listen To The 2020 Corvette Stingray Rev And Accelerate: Video

While we’ll happily eat up all the specs and info we can get our hands on with regard to the new 2020 Corvette C8, there’s a few needs that numbers on a page simply can’t fulfill. One of those needs is to hear the new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette rev and accelerate, delivering that aural connection that only eight cylinders of push-rod internal combustion can provide. Luckily, this brief 40-second video shows exactly that.

Shot on an overcast day in downtown Flint, Michigan, the 2020 Corvette in question appears to be equipped with the optional Z51 Performance Package, given the unique aero treatment. And of course, that means it’s equipped with the optional dual-mode performance exhaust system, unleashing the mid-mounted ‘eight’s full 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, not to mention all the good noises in store as well.

Hearing this thing lay into the accelerator has been a long time coming, so we’re certainly happy to see someone managed to snag it out in the wild. And kudos to the GM driver for playing along, too.

For those who may be unaware, free-revving the 2020 Corvette is actually a pretty simple endeavor, even without a clutch pedal. Simultaneously pulling both shift paddles behind the steering wheel decouples the engine from the new M1L dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission. From there, all the driver needs to do is stab the throttle and watch the RPM gauge climb, as heads turn.

We’d certainly take a second look. Mounted just behind the cabin space is the naturally-aspirated GM 6.2L LT2 V8, which quickly zings up the rpm band while the driver hits the throttle in free-rev mode.

Granted, the video is pretty short, and we’re still salivating at the thought of hearing the 2020 Corvette unleashed on a proper racetrack. Stay tuned for that.

  • Cannot wait to buy an used C8 in 10 years and install a CAT back muffler and real loud low growl that is around 100 decibels and is illegal in over 30 states! You can hear it two blocks away. LOL!?
