1994 GMC Boat Car Is Heading To Auction

Back in 2015, we highlighted a very special 1994 GMC Jimmy “Boat Car.” Now, the odd build has surfaced once again, but it’s heading to auction this time.

The story of the boat car, which you can watch in the video attached above, is a heartfelt one. The boat-car’s owner, Mark Ray, built the vehicle after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. She challenged him to build the car after her surgery and Ray immediately got to work. He took a 1994 Jimmy, chopped it up, and placed a donor boat on the SUV’s chassis. The original 4.3-liter V6 engine and interior are carryover from the Jimmy, but Ray shucked everything else.

After completing the project, the family said it put a smile on Ray’s wife, but it appears the time has come to sell the boat car. RM Sotheby’s consigned the vehicle for its Auburn Fall auction and expects the boat-car to fetch up to $50,000. According to Ray in 2015, the vehicle cost $10,000 to build.
