Holden is busy building out its portfolio of vehicles with imported nameplates from both Opel and Chevrolet. In fact, Holden may choose any vehicles it likes to round out its rebranded portfolio in life after local manufacturing—save for Cadillac.
The next addition has been announced and it’s once again coming from Opel: the Astra Sportwagon. The Holden Astra is already on sale now in Australia, while an Astra sedan will soon launch. The Astra Sportwagon will round out the Astra nameplate’s portfolio.
“With Astra Sportwagon joining Astra hatch and Astra sedan, we’re making sure there’s an exciting and desirable Holden small car to suit any taste or circumstance,” Holden’s Executive Director – Sales, Michael Filazzola, said.
“Astra Sportwagon gives customers the best of all worlds with sleek, stylish design and impressive interior space, all supported by a wealth of driving and infotainment technology.”
The Astra Sportwagon will arrive with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Australian buyers will also be treated to 1,600 liters (56.5 cubic feet) of storage.
The Astra Sportwagon is the 13th of 24 new vehicles Holden will launch by the year 2020. On deck are the 2018 NG Commodore, Holden Equinox, Holden Acadia and, eventually, a new rear-wheel drive sports car.

Ellesmere Port in the UK to Australia is a long supply line. Will Vauxhall make any money supplying it or will Holden make money selling it?
