2018 Buick Enclave Teased, Will Usher In Avenir Sub-Brand For North America

It’s finally happening, Buick faithful. After nearly 10 years since the original Buick Enclave was introduced, which ushered in the brand’s self-proclaimed renaissance, a new Enclave cometh.

The 2018 Buick Enclave will be revealed on April 11, 2017, a day before the press invades the 2017 New York International Auto Show. The brand says the 2018 Enclave will “build on the reputation” of its most important crossover and we expect to see some revolutionary improvements over the old, Lambda platform-based CUV that has been on dealer lots for almost a decade.

The 2018 Enclave will ride on the same architecture seen with the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, meaning it will keep its full-size, third-row setup. Judging by what we saw with the 2018 Traverse, a 3.6-liter LGX V6 is quite likely, as is as 2.0-liter LTG turbocharged four-cylinder option to emphasize fuel efficiency.

Where the two large CUVs will differ is in design. Where the 2018 Traverse does its best Tahoe impression, the 2018 Buick Enclave will adopt signature Buick design traits we’ve seen from the LaCrosse and Encore.

And, of course, expect plenty of premium touches with the 2018 Enclave. That’s a given. But, as we suspected, the 2018 Enclave will also be the first Buick to wear receive the Avenir treatment in North America. Buick announced its Avenir sub-brand last year, which will add unique design traits such as wheels and grilles, and provide an even more luxurious cabin with high-quality materials. Each touch is said to be inspired by the Avenir concept vehicle itself.

Buick confirmed the 2018 Enclave will be built in Lansing, Michigan, and will go on sale by the end of 2017. Stay tuned as we learn more leading up to the CUV’s reveal in just under a month.

  • I like it so far! The Avenir concept's face has been translated quite well on these newer Opel/Buick products! Now I hope GM delivers on an attractive body style! They've done well with the new Traverse and Terrain, so I've got high hopes for the next Enclave!

  • The most recent spy shots (with minimal camo) and this teaser show that we are in for something good. That headlight looks very much inspired by Avista, which is a very good thing! The one thing I wish Buick would take from Avista for all future products is the grill. I'm tired of the waterfall. Avista had a beautiful grill texture.

      • I can't agree more. GM will probably never approve it between Cadillac and Chevy's performance division. It's a waste of beautiful design.

  • I hope the interior is like nothing we've seen lately because the exterior is shaping up to be a stunner.

Also this Avenir better have black Label levels of leather choices (blue, cranberry) and wood or copper accents.

You didn't give us the Avenir so at least you can give us some really bespoke interior accents.

  • Very sharp teaser. This is the kind of marketing I love, and as I've said before, marketing is everything. I love the lines and the headlights; really looking pretty slick. I hope the Avenir trim becomes a success and Buick subsequently seen as the strong alternative to Lexus.

Buick, kick up the Avenir trim on the LaCrosse and blow the Lexus ES away, please. Couple that with great marketing and for the love of all things, please do not use "it's a Buick" tagline on any Avenir trim. Make something exciting, something sexy, something slick, with moody music and glitzy cinemtography for both the LaCrosse and the new Enclave (Avenir trims).

The recent Cadillac Oscars commercial and the CT6's 2015 Oscar commercial is where you should be looking for inspiration. I honestly believe the CT6's initial Dare Greatly television advert teaser, to a slight extent, has been why it's become a press and public favorite. (the same ad Cadillac has built upon up until late last year for that model). Do this with the LaCrosse, you still have a chance to re-introduce with the Avenir addition.

  • There was the promise to Opel of a big SUV as a second flagship besides the Opel Insignia. Could this Enclave possibly have been the promised car?

But it would probably be ruled out after the sale to PSA.

    • In an interview with the German fortnightly "Auto, Motor und Sport", K.T. Neumann said that despite Opel changing owner. all the planned products would be brought to market, including the "second flagship", answering to a question of the interviewer about the "big SUV" as the 2nd flagship car.
