Wayne Taylor Racing Wins Daytona 24H In First Outing For Cadillac DPi-V.R

Wayne Taylor Racing has won the 55th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona in the first-ever race for the new Cadillac DPi-V.R Prototype racecar.

The WTR squad took the win following a dramatic late-race battle with the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Action Express DPi-V.R. Ricky Taylor, driving the No. 10 Konica Minolta entry for WTR, dove down the inside of Filipe Albuquerque in the No. 5 car going into Turn 1, with Albuquerque making contact with Taylor and spinning. Taylor, who shared the No. 10 Cadillac with brother Jordan, Max Angelelli and NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon, used the remaining 6 minutes to put a gap between him and Albuquerque and take the overall win.

“We’ve come so close so many times, I’m speechless,” Jordan Taylor told Racer.com post-race. “I’m so proud of my brother – he made it happen.”

The Prototype win was up for grabs until the race’s closing stages, with the two AXR and WTR Cadillacs going head-to-head for the final two hours. The other non-Cadillac Protoype entries were rarely in the mix, save for a brief period where the Tequila Patron ESM Nissan led the pack before a wreck with a GTD Porsche ended its shot at a solid finish.

The second AXR Cadillac DPI-V.R, the No.31 Whelen Engineering car driven by Dane Cameron, Eric Curran, Seb Morris and Mike Conway, lost two laps early on the race after tire and bodywork problems forced it into the pits. The team finished 14th overall, behind the No. 85 Oreca and the majority of the GTLM field.
