The Chevrolet brothers gave birth to an iconic vehicle brand decades ago, but not much appreciation has been shown to their final resting place. That’s about to change, however.
Hemmings reports the Chevrolet brothers’ gravesite will finally receive a proper memorial after decades of neglect. It’s an unfortunate story since neither Louis nor his brothers would ever see wealth from the company using the family name. The graves have sat at the Indianapolis’s Holy Cross and Saint Joseph Cemetery for years without any appreciation.
“It’s such a sad story with the Chevrolet family: They gave so much in terms of racing and manufacturing, but they received no financial reward,” said Brian Hasler, co-founder of the Indiana Racing Memorial Association, the organization behind the new memorial. “We hope this will restore some appreciation of their legacy.”
Louis Chevrolet immigrated to the United States from Switzerland, where he would eventually partner with William Durant to birth Chevrolet Motor Car Company. His brothers, Gaston and Arthur, would follow him to develop performance parts and race the vehicles.
The new memorial will cost $15,000 to complete and will be funded by partially by local Chevrolet dealerships and Chevrolet Motorsport. A proper dedication will occur this Sunday.
The sweepstakes closes on December 22nd and the drawing will take place on December 28th.

If Louis and his brothere were alive now, they would be wowed and proud of the new Chevrolet, especially how the Corvette Stingray has beaten many other sportscars costing much more.
