The VF Holden Commodore’s days are sadly numbered. With the final, locally-produced 2016 Holden Commodore Series II readying for reveal, Car Advice has snapped photos of what appears to be the 2018 Holden Commodore.
This is the first time we have even seen a test mule for the upcoming 2018 Commodore, even though Holden states the car has been testing in Australia for quite some time. The 2018 Commodore will ride on General Motors’ E2XX platform, and will share many features with its new cousin: the Opel Insignia. Though, we speculate the upcoming Opel Insignia will bow earlier than the 2018 Commodore, possibly riding on a shorter wheelbase than its Commodore comrade.
The wheelbase is expected to grow substantially from where the current Opel Insignia sits, making for a better replacement for the large and in charge VF Commodore and, expect quite a few pounds to be shed as the Commodore ditches its bulky Zeta bones in favor of front-wheel drive.
From what we can tell, the shape of the car looks to be very elegant, with a long, sloping rear roof line. Though, that could only be the camouflage doing its job to skew our eyes.
When the 2018 Holden Commodore does officially show face, don’t expect a burly V8 option, as Holden has promised a new, V8 powered sports car will replace the V8-option Commodore. Do expect all-wheel drive variants paired with powerful turbocharged four-cylinders and V6 engines, however.

I too share these sentiments.....Farewell to the legendary, RWD V8 Holden, and Ford for that matter, sedan. I'm sorry to see it come to this.....But look at the bright side....Uh when I figure out what it is, I'll let you know.....
Oh yeah. Now I remember. The bright side is that at least the Commodore will lose some significant weight. That's gotta account for something right?......

It looks like a Malibu. The cars design language would fit with Insignia wagon.
Seeing this tells me Aveair with neve be built. Looks like larger LaCrosse will be doing double duty in China.

Well the Avenir was designed by Holden. Either way it looks like absolute crap and could possibly be the end of GM in Australia

Since rumor has it that Insignia sedan is not coming to Holden, yes, I think that this is simply a Malibu being tested.
The article even says that this could be a possibility.
I'm back to thinking, given the port holes popping up on Commodore, that a LaCrosse rebadge will be GMs Oz flagship.
An important feature that makes VE and VF sexy is the long dash to axle ratio. The 2018 Isignadore is going to be an ugly FWD POS with AWD offered as compensation.
