The 2025 Corvette ZR1 got its big reveal in July, showing off a long list of impressive specs. However, even with the new ZR1 officially out in the open, development continues in the background. Now, we’re checking out some behind-the-scenes images of the C8 Corvette ZR1 undergoing testing at the infamous Nürburgring race track in Germany.
As spotted by the folks at Corvette Blogger, Chevy engineers are still hammering away at the Corvette ZR1, with the publication reporting that the new mid-engine monster was unveiled early so that engineers could finish the job without the distraction of hiding from spy photographers and all the camouflage.
Looking over the photos, which were apparently captured by GM President Mark Reuss from inside the GM garage on-track at the ‘Ring, provided by Mike Furman, we see the Corvette ZR1, camo free, with the ZK Performance Package installed, including the massive rear wing. The rear end also shows a set of four down-turned exhaust pipes, likely in place due to sound restrictions. Interesting, a black-and-white U.S. flag graphic is seen up front just behind the flow-through air extractor hood.
Apparently, the Corvette ZR1 is also in German for top-speed testing at the ATP track in Papenburg, the same facility where the C7 Corvette ZR1 managed 212 mph in 2018. The new 2025 Corvette ZR1 ups the ante with an estimated top speed over the 215-mph mark. It’ll be interesting to see exactly what sort of number the top speed tests can return.
The report goes on to state that the C8 Corvette Z06 was recently spotted at the ‘Ring as well, this time undergoing hot lapping thanks to the German publication Sport Auto with professional hot shoe Christian Gebhardt at the wheel, eking out every last tenth to see how GM’s new track star performs against the competition.
For those who may have missed it, the C8 Corvette ZR1 is equipped with the twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 LT7 gasoline engine, rated at an estimated 1,064 horsepower, although the final power figure may be a bit more. All C8 Corvette variants ride on the GM Y2 platform, while production takes place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.
It’s also worth noting that GM has one final eighth-gen Vette variant under wraps, namely the new C8 Zora, which was also recently spotted at the Nürburgring.
Comments
I spotted the z-06 on the freeway for the first time. Pictures do not do this car justice. The tires are wide. The Quad tail pipes… all corvette.
A nearly new 911 Carrera Turbo nearby looked not so impressive next to that thing. I felt bad for the owner. He clearly overpaid.
