That 2016 Cadillac CT6 order guide has all kinds of interesting information about the most luxurious Cadillac sedan in years. In fact, seeing some of the CT6’s features and equipment makes us downright giddy on the inside. But the order guide also brought with it something that made us cry is rather disappointing: the fact that the full-size sport-luxury sedan will only have one auto-dimming external mirror.
That’s right, a Cadillac that will (likely) have a starting price in the $60,000s or $70,000s is getting the corner-cutting treatment by being solely equipped with a single auto-dimming rear-view mirror — the one on the driver’s side. This means that the passenger-side mirror will not auto-dim. Yes, this is the Cadillac CT6 we’re talking about — a vehicle that will be, more or less, a short-wheelbase variant of the upcoming Cadillac CT8 flagship expected in the future.
With other makes of higher brand cache not cutting these corners, it’s natural to feel frustrated.
Granted, the CT6’s exterior mirrors will be power-adjustable and power-folding, which are nice extras. But what good is any of that when the passenger-side mirror can’t dim itself when some inconsiderate (reckless?) driver is riding your tail with the brights on.
We should note that both — the Cadillac ATS and CTS also auto-dim only the driver’s-side mirror, no matter the trim level or associated price. And you should know that BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi vehicles in the classes that we’re talking about all have auto-dimming exterior mirrors as standard equipment on all of their vehicles. Simply put, it’s one of the most standard and basic features of luxury cars.

I really don't see the big deal...the passseger mirror doesn't dim, big whoop. There are certainly other features that this car does have that I, and potential customers, care much more about

Not having both mirrors auto-dim is like only having power windows or power locks on the driver's side... on a $60,000-vehicle. It's a basic feature that needs to be standard. The luxury cars made by the brands from which Cadillac wants to steal customers have auto-dimming mirrors as a standard feature.
And not only is it not standard on Cadillac's most expensive/luxurious vehicle (for now), it's NOT EVEN AVAILABLE (as an option or otherwise).
I hardly look out of the passanger side mirror. Besides I have side blind zone alert and my windows are tinted
Fair enough Chris, I see what you're saying. Sure, it should be standard on a car of this caliber, and it is a bit of a head scratcher that it isn't. That being said, I was arguing that I certainly don't think it's a deal breaker for 99% of enthusiasts and customers alike.
Has anybody gone out and used the car builders and built a comparable Mercedes or BMW or Audi, etc.? The list of things that are options and not standard are laughable to me for high end luxury cars. Now rearview and driver side mirrors I love these features...my wife's Acadia has them. I can't ever recall thinking to myself they should have included the passenger side mirror. Now, I can understand head scratching around it not even being an option, that seems silly. It easily seems like an area where GM could make easy money.
This doesnt make sense, there has to be more of a reason than just saving money. Has Gmauthority ever tried to get clarification from GM on this? I have a 2014 impala ltz and its the same thing...driver side dims only.
Are you sure it's auto dimming? The manual says "may be equipped".......as far as I know the 2016 impala comes with this feature. pretty sure my 2015 impala ltz driver side mirror doesn't dim
Its auto dimming...it dims at nighttime when lights hit the mirror.
Again something that should be there but not really a deal breaker. I had them on my SSEI and at times it made it difficult to judge distances.
What I find funny is I have a self dimming rear view mirror in the HHR inside but yet I have tinted rear factory windows out back. It is not really like it is needed but I have it and it is turned off anyways.
I like the track version of the Lotus Elise. It has a inside rear view mirror and it doesn't even have a rear window. It was easier to install it vs. getting a waiver from DOT.
Sometimes there are more to these deals than you will really know.
Boy, this is a head-scratcher indeed! Besides cost cutting, the only somewhat reasonable explanation for this may be that a passenger side auto-dimming mirror is not necessarily needed for some when it comes to general driving and parking. With the driver's side mirror being closer to the driver's sight, it's more ideal for the auto-dimming mirror feature to counter any possible glare. I suppose some drivers are not affected by excess glare from the passenger side mirror as much as others....But other than that, this is absolutely unacceptable from a luxury car company on the rise!!! Is it a deal breaker for me? Not if the CT6 is a great car! I still think this is the most interesting full-size, stopgap flagship Caddy sedan ever!!!

these cars are very few Something to talk about at all, or because such vehicles have already been surprised with all the extras, and a variety of options available for selection
Hardly the end of the world but an oversight nonetheless.
If you are going after the 7 Series you would think that you would at least have all the standard equipment in a 3 Series.
Every one is complaining about a passenger mirror that dose not dim and I am over wondering more important issues to why is the trunk about 3 cubic feet shorter then a XTS.
The omission is not a deal breaker but it is nice to have as a convenience. For me, I usually look back at a quick glance before merging to the right which some driver's don't tend to do at all at times.
