The 83rd Edition Of The 24 Hours Of Le Mans Goes Green This Week

Things got real yesterday for teams and drivers competing in the 83rd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this coming weekend. The very first pre-race checks and scrutineering sessions for cars was held yesterday and continues today, Motorsport reports, serving as a reminder of just how close the start of the most important endurance race of the year is.

This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans is special for two reasons. Not only will Corvette Racing and their two C7.Rs be looking to avenge last year’s second place finish with a win, but GM Authority’s own Manoli Katakis will be leaving his humble dwelling in Detroit for La Sarthe to attend the race.

Corvette Racing and their two bright yellow Corvettes, which are now a staple of the Le Mans grid, had yet to go under the mandatory pre-race checks as of yesterday. The first car off the trailer to have its administrative and technical checks done by FIA officials was Strakka Racing’s Nissan Dome S103 LMP1 car. The GTE Pro cars, including the C7.R, are scheduled to be rolled into Le Mans’ Place de la République for scrutinizing this afternoon.

Don’t forget to cheer on Corvette Racing drivers Ryan Briscoe, Oliver Gavin, Jordan Taylor, Tommy Milner, Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia as they shoot for the teams’ eighth class victory at Le Mans this Saturday and Sunday. The race is scheduled to go green 3 p.m. CET/9 a.m. ET on Saturday, with FOX Sports’ series of channels providing full coverage. Live timing and scoring will also be available at radiolemans.com.
