Here’s How Two Corvettes Helped One Couple Unite

Peter Gapp loves his 1992 Chevrolet Corvette for three main reasons: the performance, the design, and most notably, how it helped him meet the woman who would eventually go on to become his wife. We feel a short story coming on.

Not too long after starting his first job post-college, Mr. Peter Gapp bought a beautiful black rose C4 Corvette coupe. As an Austria native, he grew up around Porsches and other respected European sports cars. However, according to GM’s FastLane blog, it was the Corvette’s reputation that virtually signed him up by itself.

“At the time, there weren’t many vehicles with a V8 engine and 300 horsepower within my price range,” said Peter. “From the performance to the design, I really got my money’s worth.”

Soon after he purchased it, Gapp drove it to work. (Where else would you drive your brand new Corvette? Certainly not the track or at least some fun back-roads, that’s for sure.) He parked next to a 1977 C3 Corvette coupe, reportedly the only other ‘Vette in the parking lot (as seen at the top of the article). Luckily for him, the owner of the C3, Lisa, had forgotten something in the car that morning, and had to come back out to retrieve it.

“As I was admiring the red leather interior, a woman came out and informed me it wasn’t for sale,” remembers Peter.

“When I got to my car, I noticed a great-looking guy standing between my ’77 Corvette and a gorgeous black rose Corvette,” Lisa says of her and Peter’s unscheduled meeting.

Peter and Lisa quickly bonded over the cars, fell in love, and then eventually got married. Twenty-three years later, both Corvettes are still being driven by the couple. The 1977 C3 Stingray has been fully restored and runs great, but Peter says that it’s the black rose color on his 1992 C4 coupe that really turns heads as they cruise up and down the east coast of the U.S.

“When my wife and I cruise around we get a lot of interest from people because you don’t see a color like black rose on the road today,” he explains. “It’s a unique color that appears differently depending on where I’m driving. In the sun, the light bounces off the hood like a gem, but in the shade, it really gives off a black tint.”
