Jordan Taylor Posts Fastest Lap At Daytona Roar Before The 24 Practice Session

This past weekend was host to the annual Roar Before the 24 practice session, the Tudor United Sportscar Championship’s official dress rehearsal for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Wayne Taylor Racing and Team Chevy’s Jordan Taylor posted the fastest lap of the day Saturday in his No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP, lapping the 3.56-mile road course in 1:39.181, Sports Car Illustrated reports.

Jordan shares the No. 10 Corvette DP with brother Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli. The second fastest lap was also recorded in a Corvette DP, with Sebastien Bourdais, the series’ defending champion, posting a 1:39.310. The third fastest lap was recorded by Ozz Negri, who posted a 1:39.342 in his Michael Shank Racing JS P2/Honda DP.

“These days you need to have the fastest car because when you get to the final hour (of the race) you need to race everyone,” Taylor said post-practice session. “Five years ago we wouldn’t focus on a lap-time car, we’d just make it as comfortable as possible. Now you need to work on lap times and race pace because you know you’re going to come to that last hour having to race for the win.”

Sunday’s morning session was plagued with light rain, forcing teams to swap their dry slicks for rain tires and take more reserved, cautious racing lines. The rain stopped halfway through the session, which ended without a yellow flag. Sunday’s afternoon session may be dry, however some teams will reportedly pack up early and head home.
