Shanghai OnStar — GM’s China-based telematics subsidiary — announced several new features at the 12th Guangzhou International Auto Show. Among the new features is Vehicle Maintenance Tips.
The service that constantly monitors the health of a vehicle. If it discovers that maintenance is recommended, a notice will be sent to owners via the OnStar Mobile App, from which customers can make an appointment at a dealer for service.
Currently, the Vehicle Maintenance Tips service is available in the OnStar Mobile App, a Chinese-market variant of the OnStar RemoteLink app offered in North America. However, we should note that OnStar already offers two similar services in North America: OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics and Dealer Maintenance Notification, according to the OnStar website. Whether GM-OnStar plans on introducing a comparable service to subscribers in North America is unknown. We’ve reached out to GM for comment and will update this article upon hearing back.
