We’re going to take the liberty of glossing over the fact that this Fox body Mustang LX is splitting allegiances with its supercharged LS2 powerplant.
YouTube user Westcoast1320 posted this video from the dragstrip of the aforementioned LS-powered Mustang LX squaring off against a built, nitrous-charged Chevrolet Camaro. This is (literally) powerful stuff.
The stock curb weights of both cars obviously no longer hold true; still, one would expect the older, originally lighter Fox body Mustang LX to retain the advantage in the weight department. But when the cars launch and tear down the quarter-mile, there doesn’t appear to be any appreciable difference in power-to-weight ratio.
Denied a second camera angle further down the strip, it’s impossible to ascertain for sure, but this supercharged-LS Mustang and nitrous-charged Camaro look to be neck-and-neck the entire way, with the Camaro ultimately winning by a very slight margin.
That said, it becomes even less cut-and-dry when you watch the launch carefully; the Camaro quite obviously jumps the gun, getting a portion of a second head start on the Mustang.
If we had been running the race that day, we’d have disqualified the Camaro and the Mustang would have won by default; everyone loves an allegiance-defying, LS-powered underdog.
