If financial constraints are scaring you away from pursuing four wheeling, then watch this episode of Motor Trend’s “Dirt Every Day.” With the goal of turning a $1,400 1993 Chevrolet S-10 into a true off-roader for less than $2,000, host Fred Williams takes the little pickup off-road to test its stock potential.
Armed with a 4.3-liter V6, the truck is unfortunately saddled with General Motors’ 700R4 automatic transmission; however, Williams views the glass as half full and instead chooses to focus on the transmission’s very low first gear, which he says “helps it off-road when you kind of need to rock crawl or get up some obstacles.”
While the little S-10 isn’t the ultimate four wheeler out of the box, Williams sees potential in the single cab truck and takes it to the shop for a little modification. Watch the video below to see what he does to this 21-year-old Chevrolet truck.
