British motoring magazine EVO recently pitted the 576 horsepower Vauxhall VXR8 against an extremely worthy competitor, the 577 horsepower Mercedes E63 S AMG, in a one kilometer standing start drag race.
With a twin turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine sending 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, the E63 S AMG is no slouch in a straight line. The Vauxhall, though, with General Motors 6.2-liter supercharged LSA engine is not a car to be taken lightly either. Compared to the Merc, the VXR8 has a few small disadvantages. It’s down on torque with just 545 lb-ft and has a 6-speed manual transmission. Moreover, it’s heavier by about 25 lbs.
These two heavy hitting super sedans both have a forced induction V8 under the hood, seats for 5 passengers and rear-wheel drive, but which one will reign supreme on the empty runway? Check out the video below to find out.
