The Chevrolet SS sedan is already an impressive piece of kit from the minute it leaves Holden’s Elizabeth plant in South Australia. For many customers, the 420 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of twist being produced from the 6.2-liter LS3 engine is plenty. But for the SS customer who needs a little more gusto when he puts the pedal down, Hennessey Performance Engineering has a supercharged HPE600 upgrade kit for the rear wheel-drive Chevy flagship sedan.
Hennessey recently popped on over to Lonestar Motorsports Park to test out their HPE600 SS. We’ve already seen the car hit its 163 mph top speed hard and fast on a Texas toll road, but now it’s time to see what it can do over the course of only a quarter of a mile. The HPE600 upgrade kit includes a TVS2300 supercharger system, an HPE pulley, high flow fuel injectors and an HPE engine and fuel management system. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Hennessey’s SS upgrade kits, with 650, 800 and 1000 horsepower packages currently in the works. Until those are finished, you can see how this relatively “tame” SS fares in the quarter mile in the video below.
