Florida and portions of the southeast U.S. are facing a deluge of water as Tropical Storm Debby drops a record amount of precipitation throughout the week. The storm initially made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane along Florida’s Gulf Coast, and has caused significant disruption and damage, including at least six deaths, five of which are attributed to either traffic accidents or fallen trees as a result of the storm. Now, one viral video shows a Chevy Colorado that was claimed by a washed-out road.
The video was published by Mike’s Weather Page on Facebook, and was apparently captured in Live Oak, Florida. The video shows a Chevy Colorado nose-deep into a river, the road around it completely dissolved by the rushing water. The tailgate of the vehicle is seen perched on top of the road, with the front end angled down into the murky water below. Bits of the road continue to fall into the river throughout the video.
“Hope they are ok,” one commenter posts. “But a real good example to not drive on flooded roads.”
Too true. The power of nature to reshape the landscape is truly awesome, and that includes manmade structures like roads. By the look of it, this section of this particular country backroad was completely melted in the huge surge of water. Granted, the road may not have been flooded on top, and in fact washed out from underneath, but still, the lesson here is clear – when the weather gets this bad, it’s probably a smart idea to stay at home, especially with falling trees and other dangers.
Looking ahead, Tropical Storm Debby has regained some of its strength after hovering over the Atlantic, and is expected to hit the Carolinas with heavy rain as the week unfolds. The majority of the rain is expected in southeastern North Carolina before the storm moves towards New England. Meanwhile, New York City is under severe thunderstorm and flood watches as residents are warned of flooding.

By no means just Florida. Here, along the South Carolina coast, it's no picnic either. I'm sick of this thing!
If I go fast enough, I can FLY over the road, and do a Bo Dukes of Hazzard landing!
Or not.
I tried this once. Ended the same way.
owner said, I think i can, i think i can. Well, reality hit. Bet they will never try and cross a road with water running across it again.
Hopefully that happened in heavy rain or at night. I'd feel pretty badly about not paying enough attention to the road to make that move if that washout was in plain sight.
