Japanese-based automaker Honda has unveiled two concept Honda 0 Series electric vehicles at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Serving as precursor concepts to production models set to be released sometime in the future, the two concepts – the Saloon sedan and the Space-Hub van – utilize a new Honda electrification design and engineering approach. The EVs feature a design philosophy called “The Art of Resonance,” various ADAS and automated driving goodies, and a highly efficient battery, among other items.
“The mobility we dream of is not an extension of the trend of ‘thick, heavy, but smart’ EVs,” Honda Global CEO Toshihiro Mibe was quoted as saying. “We will create a completely new value from zero based on thin, light and wise as the foundation for our new Honda 0 EV series to further advance the joy and freedom of mobility to the next level.”
The sedan concept can be considered the flagship concept model. Sitting on a dedicated EV platform, a production vehicle based off this concept is expected to reach North American shores by the 2026 calendar year.
“We have gone back to basics and formulated the Honda 0 Series with a design for the new era,” Honda Global EVP Shinji Aoyama stated. “A bold and pure proportion that from the first glance is overwhelmingly different from other EVs to evoke a new perspective for people.”
It’s worth noting that the Japanese-based automaker also announced a new EV-exclusive “H” badge.
Upon release, this new Honda 0 Series of EVs will serve as direct rivals to General Motors’ Ultium-based products. With that in mind, the timing of this announcement comes at an interesting point, as the two automakers recently canned a project to co-develop affordable electric vehicles together.
In regard to GM specifically, The General has yet to announce an all-electric sedan for the North American market.

The next fives years is gonna be rough for EVs. Government and legacy auto EV announcements has created FOMO for ICE vehicles.
….think these two cars shows Honda’s fundamental problem with EVs is exterior styling.
Woof.
Ned: I couldn't agree more. My thought is why do these makers think buyers want ugly and/or strange looking EV's? I certainly don't. I also question if more buyers would get onboard with EV's if they walked into a dealer and the sales person showed them the exact same car (SUV, truck, etc) where one was ICE and one EV. Would more people buy or at least show more interest in the EV's then?
I certainly like my Bolt EV, but not overly crazy about the style. It's not offensive and would look tons better without the ugly black plastic around the wheels/bottom. But I'd jump 100% now for the current Malibu in the EV. Or better yet, bring back the Buick Regal in an EV.
@Ned- I remember being a kid in the early 80’s and dreaming about what the cars of the future would look like. Now that we’re here….i want to go back! Man, I really miss Hondas from the early 90’s. Small, sporty & practical…particularly the Civic, CRX, Prelude
If they go into production, they won't much look like that. Concept vehicles are always way over the top.
Honda was considering a joint EV Project with GM but they soon realized GM would be heavy baggage holding Honda back.
Btw, how many ways can you make a Capital "H" ?
The black one looks like an odd Lamborghini wannabe kit car.
Or maybe a DeLorean
The van’s exterior is a lazy derivative of GM’s 2002 HyWire Concept vehicle….and the car, well, it’s just a really bad Fiero fiberglass conversion. IMHO
What's even worse is if the styling is this Gawd-awful, what silly engineering decisions were also made?
