The Factory Five Type 65 Coupe is a replica kit car styled after the iconic Shelby Daytona, a streamlined two-door that Caroll Shelby cooked up to take on the dominant Ferrari 250 GTO at Le Mans. Customers can order the complete kit through Factory Five’s website, which includes all the chassis and powertrain parts and wiring needed to build the car from the ground up.
Due to the car’s Shelby inspiration, the majority of Factory Five Type 65 Coupe owners opt for the 302 cubic inch Ford engine that the company offers as part of the complete kit, although a wide variety of V8 engines will fit in the car. Just take this model that recently popped up for sale via Bring-A-Trailer, for example, which trades the Ford 5.0-liter for a supercharged LS3 V8 crate engine from Chevrolet Performance.
The engine in this car was built by Mast Performance and has been stroked from 6.2-liters to 6.8-liters. It also features a Whipple twin-screw supercharger, custom exhaust headers and an aftermarket oil cooling system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission and a Wavetrac differential with 4.10:1 gears. Aftermarket traction control from Davis Technologies and fully adjustable coilovers help keep this wildly powerful kit car under control, while Wilwood carbon ceramic brakes bring the package to a stop.
Inside, this Factory Five Type 65 features two bucket seats with Simpson racing harnesses, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, aftermarket A/C from Vintage Air and a repurposed iPad that serves as a head unit. Grey carpets and black leather upholstered door cards round out the cabin’s limited creature comforts.
