Both Mexico and Canada agreed at a panel in Davos, Switzerland, that the North American Free Trade Agreement in long overdue for modernization. And both countries remain positive that a new deal will surface that satisfies all countries, Reuters reported on Thursday.
A U.S. government representative was not present at the panel, but Canada’s Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, and Mexican Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo both expressed positive outlooks. Both countries have brought creative solutions to the latest round of NAFTA discussions, which kicked off this past week in Montreal.
The biggest topic will be the automotive sector, which Guajardo named as a crucial area in need of modernizing.
“The car that we use as the base for rules of origin is the model from 1991. Look at the car today—it’s 80 percent different,” Guajardo said.
He added that negotiators needed to listen to President Donald Trump‘s requests and attempt to implement some of the administration’s requests without harming various sectors of business.
A previous report put two unnamed Canadian officials on the record saying they believe President Trump will ultimately withdraw from the trade agreement. Such a move would impact numerous automakers, including General Motors, which produces vehicles in all three North American countries.
The sweepstakes closes on December 22nd and the drawing will take place on December 28th.

But at the end of the day, President Trump and the U.S. still win. Remember when Canada and Mexico laughed when they said NAFTA would never be renegotiated? Any renegotiation already benefits the U.S. (as Canada has admitted) and not Canada or Mexico (they have already made concessions).
Automakers have already either moved production back, will move it back, to the U.S., or stopped moves to Canada and Mexico because of the President. Add to that gains in the new NAFTA for the U.S., a roaring economy and stock market under Trump, and Japanese automakers investing billions in new plants in the U.S. (Alabama, anyone?), and President Trump will just keep on winning.
...No matter how hard the bias MSM try to spin things.
A Japanese plant in the U.S. is a loss because they can sell more cars at lesser prices, killing U.S. brands. The cost of assembly is much less than the manufacturing , and all the profits return to Japan. If you believe that is a "win" you are a traitor!
Trumpets always need an enemy: MSM, Hillary (the election was over one year ago), Muslims, immigrants, Mueller (a Republican who is suddenly labeled liberal).
Year one of Trump has been a continuation of the Obama recovery on steroids with the lifting of regulation and an unnecessary tax cut. Wall Street has grown wealthier but your average factory worker has not and still suffers the same fears and anxieties because it's painfully obvious that Trump won't stop China.
Pulling out of NAFTA will be a disaster. It's banana republic behavior. The US has always thrived based on good government: Nations that honor treaties are prime for investment, and this is why the US, UK, Canada, AUSTRALIA and NZ have always lead. It is horrible to harm GM and hundreds of other companies in a trade war launched for political gain.
NAFTA was and still is a disaster to begin with, have nothing to do with free trade you libturd, it's all a plan for big corporations over the American people.
Any agreement that helps Canada and Mexico is a bad agreement for the US! The agreement should benefit the US first and then Canada and Mexico get what's left over
And why would Canada, a wealthy nation, and Mexico, a country China would love, sign your deal?
