Many General Motors brass insisted 2016 would be the year the automaker’s passenger car program was put back on track. That turned out to be quite true—the Chevrolet Cruze, Malibu and LaCrosse all ushered in some of the best sedans GM has built.
Now, it’s the year of the crossover.
Automotive News reports GM is heavily vested in making 2017 a banner year, and fresh crossovers are expected to help make that happen. The sheer amount of CUVs are impressive; the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, 2018 GMC Terrain, 2018 Chevrolet Traverse and the 2018 Buick Enclave are all hitting the market this year.
“Our pipeline and mix of new products are strong,” GM CEO Mary Barra said in April. “In the U.S., 10 all-new or recently redesigned crossovers are expected to drive sales and market share higher this year.”
Next year, more good news for a booming auto segment will arrive: redesigned full-size pickup trucks. 2018 will likely see the introduction of both the 2019 GMC Sierra and 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, arguably two of GM’s most important products.
Things can always change, however, and GM’s brands have their bases covered. Mid-size and compact sedans, trucks and crossovers of many sizes create a diverse portfolio and provide a failsafe should the market’s crossover craze fizzle out. Whether some sedans will continue on may be up for debate, but GM is poised to reap the rewards of crossovers this year.

I hope that has prices spike so that Malibu, Cruze, Regal tick upwards in sales.
Would love to see Buick sell China Astra as well.
Why? If prices go up, buyers will just go towards other brands.
Invasion via a series of all new crossovers, in mass.
Having four brands in the U.S. , with distinctive models, makes for a broad offering.
Hoped they don't screw up the CUV marketing with those real people commercials. I haven't talked to anyone who likes them. Some forums I've seen people comment they would buy another brand because the commercials annoy them so much.
GM is finally getting new products to sell . The new Nox and Terrain were at one time scheduled for the '17 MY but was pushed back to 2018 , Lost sales there , although both continued to sell at a decent rate while its competition ate their lunch .
Buick by far had the right products at the correct time , the Encore has been huge success for the division and the Envision filled in the white space and their new Enclave stayed 3-row which is a good decision , and Avenir trim models will keep the cash register singing .
While some of GM's factories are not going to be operating at full capacity soon it would help if the Envision started to be built here in the States to rid the car of the stigma of being a " Commie - Car " as some UAW folks refer to it .
And Cadillac completely mis-read the SUV craze but is about to rectify that by the end of the decade . Let's just hope that by the time they get these vehicles to market that the economy is still strong and not in recession which would severly hurt the sales of these newbies .
GM is big enough to cover most segments and some will do quit well ( XT5 ) and some may not . The competition is tough and to sell in this market you need to offer things others are not or a design that consumers like better .
I am not a big fan of the cuvs period! The ones that GM has are great for what they provide, GM needs to continue putting lots of resources into cuvs so that GM can use the profits for other cars and trucks!
The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse has a shot to be a sales homerun for GM! Huge interior and good looks. Now with less weight and better fuel economy.
Waiting for the new 2018Buick Enclave to come out, does anyone know when they will start arriving at dealerships in Illinois
