Group Of 2018 Buick Regal GS Spied

GM will launch not one, but two new 2018 Buick Regal variants this fall in the 2018 Regal Sportback and Regal TourX wagon. However, one is missing: the Regal GS.

We know it’s coming, but it looks like it’s some time off judging by the latest spy shots. Photos show a group of 2018 Buick Regal GS sportbacks cruising down an undisclosed highway. Camouflage covers the entire car, but it’s easy-peasy to spot the two chrome wings flanking a Buick tri-shield badge at the front. The camo also seems to cover larger openings in the bumper and likely a more aggressive front fascia altogether.

At the rear, dual integrated exhaust is present, but we can’t make much of else out from the shots.

Despite the cars being cloaked in camouflage, we do have a few nuggets of information.

Previously, Buick Canada slipped and divulged the upcoming Regal GS would be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine. The brief description did not mention turbo or supercharging, leading us to speculate the hotter Regal will use the LGX V6 engine, which powers various other GM products.

We also were granted leaked images of what looks to be the 2018 Regal GS in the flesh for China. The image shows a sportier front end, Brembo brakes, GS badging and more. The image was published ahead of the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show, where the car was rumored to debut, but never did.

So, we’ll have to wait a while longer for some solid information on the Buick Regal GS.

The spy shots can be seen here.

  • I'm hoping that is not the final front end design, as it is missing fog lamps (again!). If the base Regal gets them, why not the GS? Also hoping there are more wheel choices (black wheels are NOT my thing), and that the perforated seats and head up display make their way to the interior. Would a GS wagon be too much to ask for too?

  • This is the only GM vehicle that currently excites me. It doesn't scream luxury but should offer a great ride.
With the end of Opel this is probably the last Regal so enjoy! It will be a short life span unless we start Chinese imports.

  • To be honest, I'd rather see a Malibu SS than a Regal GS. Actually I'd rather see an Impala SS on the Alpha platform than either of these two. Something with a rear wheel drive chassis and an 475hp hot LT1 V8 with four doors, dual mode exhaust, magnetic ride, brembo brakes, recaro seats, leather/alcantara interior, Camaro inspired interior, 10-speed auto, a twin turbo 420hp V6 with AWD on a non SS model or something like that. Not some rebadged Opel

  • I hope those black wheels are NOT standard GS fare. It would also be nice if GM would offer the LGX in the heavier wagon.

  • 6 speed manual too much to ask? Probably, since they teased us with it for a couple years and then yanked it as an option on the last gen.
