We heard last year Buick was toying with the idea of plopping a V6 engine under the hood of the 2018 Regal, and it seems said idea will be coming to fruition.
The Truth About Cars reports Buick Canada’s official website posted a brief snippet of information regarding the next Regal GS and makes mention of a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system. The passage reads as follows:
Engineered to make getting there all the fun, the all-new Regal’s excellent driving performance is something to be experienced with available new powertrain and AWD system (3.6L V6 on GS and Twin Clutch AWD).
While the nugget of information has since been deleted from the website, the evidence remains in Google. Performing a quick search reveals the page’s information cached on the internet. Buick declined to comment on the information’s authenticity.
The 3.6-liter V6 will more than likely take the form of General Motor’s 3.6-liter LGX V6, which finds a home in plenty of other GM vehicles. Specifically, the engine makes 335 horsepower in the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro V6 1LE, certainly a power figure not worthy of a scoff.
Of course, there is one family member that has already been confirmed to house a V6 engine: the 2018 Holden Commodore. Holden confirmed it had lobbied for a V6-powered variant early on in the development of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport/Holden Commodore/Buick Regal. The V6 will also be paired with a torque vectoring all-wheel drive system.
It seems unlikely Buick will employ forced induction at this time, judging by the phrasing from the website, but we won’t know anything certain until the brand makes the 2018 Buick Regal GS something official.
The sweepstakes closes on December 22nd and the drawing will take place on December 28th.

Bring it on! 0-60 in the mid 5's. Buick needs to tap into the sport oriented market with the new Regal GS if they are not going to build the Avista. The new Avenir range can be luxury improvements, but GS should be all performance and attitude. Blacked-out elements, more aggressive front fascia, sporty wheels. I also wouldn't mind seeing the waterfall grill go away on the GS. Put in a more aggressive grill texture from the Insignia or even the Avista. The design of the new Regal and the platform could make it a true value over the A5 Sportback.
335 HP in a car that light will render you the Low 5's or maybe even better! It's a little small, but i'd look at it.
Buick also posted on the American website that the Cascada had a "All new 3.6L" I tried reporting this to you but email failed. I reported it to Buick and it was removed :( I sitll have the screen shot lol.
I had a 1995 Buick Regal with the NA 3.8 L (231 CI) V6 and it was fun to drive for 21 years. Please bring the V6 back to the Regal!! I do hope some third part will sell a supercharger or a turbocharger kit for all those Regal fans who remember the GN and GNX.
How about the 3.0TT V6?
Doubtful. Cadillac said it would be part of their exclusive engine range. Better shot might be the 3.6 TT. It has been applied to the FWD platform in the XTS and has not been marked as exclusive to Cadillac.
Yes! Please include the V6 in the Regal GS. Now that GM no longer has Pontiac or Oldsmobile, the Buick brand needs to have performance for those of us who cannot afford Cadillac, and who also remember the Buick Century and the GN, GNX.
But please, offer the large engine in a very demure and unassuming package. Not all of us are macho young men any longer. About 2 years ago I tried to buy a Regal GS, and early in the model year it was available only in all-black, with summer tires, bright chrome 20" wheels. Not my demographic; did not buy, sorry.
from a Holden media release about the next gen Commodore:
"Developed predominantly for Australia, the V6 AWD and 2.0-litre turbo, both with nine-speed automatic transmission, continue to pound out the development kilometres under the watchful eyes of Holden’s expert engineers."
And from an earlier one on the new Holden Commodore suite:
"
• Next-generation Commodore built in Germany on all-new, global E2 architecture shared with Opel Insignia
• Lightweight construction methods result in approximately 200kg weight savings compared to current Commodore
• Flagship model offers V6 AWD drivetrain with Holden-first 9-speed transmission
• V6 engine delivers 230kW / 370Nm while being incredibly efficient thanks to Stop-Start technology and Active Fuel Management
• 2.0T petrol and 2.0T diesel front-wheel drive models also coming to Australia
• Liftback and Sportwagon body-styles
• Cutting-edge, adaptive all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring and twin-clutch (‘Twinster’) rear differential system
• Adaptive ‘Flexride’ suspension system offers three settings: ‘Tour’, ‘Standard’ and ‘Sport’
• Next-generation matrix lighting system
• Infotainment includes:
• Apple Car Play and Android Auto
• 8-inch configurable LCD instrument display,
• next-gen head-up display
"
The 2018 Holden Commodore and the NAFTA Buick Regal in all their forms will be built together with their Opel/Vauxhall Insignia sibling in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
That factory soon being PSA owned notwithstanding.
My take: when Holden announces a V6 for its version of the Insignia/Regal, and considering that the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia could be had with a 2.8 V6 in the AWD and OPC variants, expect a V6 for a Buick Regal GS, too.
Dear GM: Regal GS wagon, please make it happen!

Why not the twin turbo V6 of the ATS/V???
But please in the Gs no start-stop technology that will ruin the fun of the car no matter what Buick says
Or at least make it so that stop/start can be disabled.
