We’re still quite some time out from an official launch of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, but pre-production models are being built and tested right now.
The Camaro team will take the summer to develop and hone the 2017 Camaro ZL1 in further, and the General Motors Lansing assembly will continue gearing up for the most beastly Camaro Six variant we’ve seen yet.
“This is kind of the pinnacle for us,” said Mike Trevorrow, GM’s Lansing regional plant manager told The Lansing State Journal. “With 640 horsepower, I don’t think we have much more room. It’s the fastest car I’ve seen parked.”
“This handles very well on corners,” Trevorrow said. “There’s a greater balance. This goes against the Mustang Boss and Shelby, and we’re starting to see the vehicle be compared to Porsche and BMW M Series.”
The comparisons are warranted, too. With the mere 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS giving the latest BMW M4 a beating, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 is poised to do incredible things.

Will the ZL1s be completely painted?
Will the seats recline properly?
Yes paint is not a problem and the seats work fine. This is a Chevy not a Ford or Dodge.
Will there be a gas guzzler tax on the 10 speed automatic? Also will theer be a blade spoiler as an option?
The MPG is not announced yet and for what we know as of now the wing is the only spoiler.
I suspect as critical as many are of the wing a blade spoiler may be seen in the future.
If I ordered an SS today I would try to order with the wing deleted to put on the V6 spoiler. It is not common but with the right dealer things like this still can be done.
There's little doubt that the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will become a legend because it will be equipped with the 640 horsepower LT4 supercharged 6.2L OHV-2v V8; the 2016 Camaro SS proved to be better than a 2015 BMW M4 and makes you wonder what giants will be slayed by the 2017 Camaro ZL1.
CHEVYS ARE FRICKEN AWESOME!!
Ford people must be sweating bullets as the release date of the New Camaro gets closer because even they would have to admit that there isn't a Mustang made that could give the ZL1 any competition whatsoever!!! Nice Work GM.
Will there be a sun roof as an option?
Motor Trend tested the 2016 Camaro SS against the 2015 BMW M4; I can't wait til Motor Trend decides to test the 2017 Camaro ZL1 convertible with it's LT4 640 hp supercharged 6.2L V8 against the 2017 Mercedes AMG S63 Cabriolet with it's 577 hp twin turbo 5.5L V8.
When can one pre-order the ZL1?
